Description
Summary/Objective: A laboratory assistant performing phlebotomy verifies patient identification, draws blood from patients of all ages maintaining specimen integrity, labels the drawn blood for processing, and enters correct patient information into the LIS.

- Functions Phlebotomy skills are such that specimens are obtained correctly and specimen integrity is maintained.
- Verifies accurate and correct information on patients and proceeds to accurate labeling of specimens.
- Accurate data entry skills in verifying correct patient information and requested tests.
- Professional attitude with patients including assistance with patients' questions and giving instructions on specimen collection and handling.
- Maintains a well-stocked, clean, and orderly work environment.
- Adheres to all safety standards in the handling of biohazardous specimens and contaminated phlebotomy equipment.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience: High school diploma required.
Preferred Education and Experience: A minimum of one year experience as a phlebotomist to include phlebotomy performed on all ages and ability to adapt to multiple computer systems.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Basic knowledge of medical terminology and data entry skills. Knowledge of specimen collection, specimen requirements, specimen integrity and specimen handling.
