This role sits at the intersection of elite officiating, live match operations, and sports technology, with a strong emphasis on match-day performance, stakeholder confidence, and operational consistency, rather than commercial or financial ownership.

Working closely with the Head of Officiating, Liga MX / FMF refereeing structures, competition management, and Genius Sports’ product and engineering teams, the role is critical to building trust, stability, and long-term success for SAOT in Mexico.

SAOT Integration & Operational Performance
  • Lead the integration of SAOT into La Liga MX match operations, ensuring alignment with league protocols, refereeing workflows, and VAR processes.
  • Oversee live match-day operations to ensure consistent system performance and effective decision-making support.
  • Act as the primary operational escalation point for SAOT-related issues and incident management.
  • Ensure operational readiness across venues, match rounds, and officiating teams.
Operational Excellence & Quality Control
  • Enforce quality assurance standards and governance protocols across all SAOT systems and processes.
  • Maintain, review, and continuously improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
  • Lead post-match and post-season reviews to identify trends, risks, and improvement actions.
  • Ensure compliance with league regulations, competition protocols, and data protection standards relating to athlete and match data.
Refereeing & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work closely with Liga MX, FMF, refereeing committees, and competition officials to ensure SAOT supports referees effectively and consistently.
  • Support referee education, briefings, and confidence-building around SAOT workflows and decision-making.
  • Act as a trusted liaison between officiating stakeholders and Genius Sports internal teams.
  • Support sensitive communications relating to operational performance, incidents, or change.
Team & Performance Leadership
  • Lead and develop SAOT operational managers, operators, and technical staff.
  • Foster a high-performance culture aligned with elite officiating standards.
  • Monitor operational KPIs and performance indicators, providing structured reporting.
  • Support training and professional development to ensure teams remain current with technology, processes, and the Laws of the Game.
Product & Engineering Collaboration
  • Serve as the operational interface between Officiating, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Ensure live-operations feedback from La Liga MX is captured and reflected in product improvements and system evolution.
  • Support testing, upgrades, and controlled changes in live and pre-live environments.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Proven experience working in elite football officiating or officiating operations, ideally within professional or international competitions.
  • Strong understanding of Law 11 (Offside) and how technology supports decision-making within VAR or comparable officiating systems.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in high-pressure, broadcast-critical sporting environments, requiring calm, accurate real-time judgment.
  • Strong leadership capability, with experience managing teams and complex operations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Strong operational mindset with a focus on consistency, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical, product, and engineering teams.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work flexibly around match schedules.

IT WILL BE A BONUS IF YOU KNOW

  • Background as a professional or elite-level Referee or Assistant Referee.
  • Experience working within sports technology, broadcast technology, or performance analytics environments.
  • Familiarity with FMF, CONCACAF, or international refereeing structures.
