Merge medical imaging solutions, offered by Merative, combine intelligent, scalable imaging workflow tools with deep and broad expertise to help healthcare organizations improve their confidence in patient outcomes and optimize care delivery.
Working under minimal supervision, this person will oversee the technical support escalations from L1 & L2 support teams in the Merge PACS product group. They will also perform software development activities related to existing and new product development. The person will be directed by the team leader, architect, and/or manager and will liaison with customer technical staff and cross-departmental Merge technical/clinical staff to perform the following high-level tasks: 1) Understand and troubleshoot existing problems within the product; and 2) Understand new requirements and existing design constraints within the product. The person is expected to work with our L1 and L2 support teams to identify and correct issues with the product and work to identify the root cause of the issue. The person will also be expected to develop and document the requirement specifications and designs for modules, code and implement those designs, and perform verification and validation of those implementations according to the Merge Standard Operating Procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the technical support escalations from L1 & L2 support teams, ensuring effective and helpful support is provided to end users.  

  • Perform product development and support in accordance with Merge’s methodology and practices.   

  • Perform software module requirement analysis, design, and test design as assigned;    

  • Prepare software module specifications, designs, test descriptions and estimates as assigned;   

  • Implement software modules and unit tests as assigned and conduct appropriate module testing;   

  • Conduct appropriate verification and validation activities as assigned;   

  • Detect, report, investigate, and fix product defects as appropriate;   

  • Prepare technical reports as required;   

  • Engage actively in design and code reviews of work items completed by the team in conjunction with the Team Lead and/or architect;   

  • Where applicable, interface with customer(s) and Merge staff to gather product requirements, present technical aspects of the product, and understand problems with the product;   

  • Work effectively in collaboration with other members of the department, or with managers and staff across the organization with whom tasks must be completed;   

  • Participate in Merge's performance review process, including actively setting product and personal development goals and performing self-assessments;   

  • Pursue a program of self-development through the use of selected reading, seminars, and participation in continuing education;   

  • Identify and communicate possible improvements in the work process for customers and peers;   

  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or upper management.

  • Complete knowledge and full understanding of area of specialization and large, complex system  

  • Assesses circumstances & uses sophisticated analytical and problem solve techniques to identify root cause.  

  • Resolves & assesses a wide range of issues in creative ways & suggests variations in approach.  

  • Works independently and submits work for review at critical points.  

Technical Skills:

  • Programming experience with Java, C++ 

  • Cloud experience:  Azure, AWS, ARO, or other 

  • OS:  Windows 

  • Virtualization platforms:  VMware vSphere, Docker and Kubernetes, Azure (AKS)   

  • Database:  DB2 

  • Development Environments:  Eclipse - Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for Java, Github, Microsoft Visual Studio;   

  • Flexibility to work in an Agile or Iterative development model;   

  • Experience in DICOM(Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine), HL7(Health Level 7) and IHE(Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) is an asset;  

  • Knowledge, skills, training and experience in enterprise level software systems;   

  • Knowledge, skills, training, and experience in software requirements and design engineering skills using a well-defined disciplined engineering process or methodology;   

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office or other office automation/productivity software tools;   

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;   

  • Experience with customer interaction is highly recommended;  

  • Experience with imaging workflow is an asset   

 

Education Requirements   

  • An undergraduate degree or better in computer science or equivalent discipline or equivalent level of industry related experience;   

  • 1-5 years of related experience in software development.
