Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
How’s this for job satisfaction? At Scottish Water we look after Scotland’s most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we’re guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water, and caring for our environment at the same time.
In our new SR27 investment period, Scottish Water will be spending £1 billion per annum on our capital programme, increasing investment to ensure we can replace or upgrade ageing assets and support the move towards achieving our strategic ambitions. Our new team – Knowledge & Performance Improvement (K&PI) Team, which was created 18 months ago, has the key purpose of supporting Scottish Water and our Partners to learn from our previous project experiences. This includes reflecting on past mistakes but also continuing to improve on our successes. This in turn will assist in delivering a programme that provides great value and enables service excellence.
Sound good? We are currently looking for a KPI Performance Lead who will thrive on the challenge of helping shape the team and our service provision.
What you’ll do
You’ll work closely with Scottish Water teams linked to the Capital Programme and our Delivery Partners to identify and promote experiential learning and best practice. You’ll spotlight localised learning while fostering wider knowledge-sharing to help us collectively replicate past successes and avoid future mistakes.
You’ll be developing mechanisms to enhance knowledge sharing and promote best practice across Scottish Water and our partners. You’ll also engage in the triage and prioritisation of learning opportunities highlighted through the CI Learning Hub, ensuring that valuable insights are effectively captured and actioned. You’ll facilitate the progression of learnings from initial submission to implementation and embedment by working with teams across Scottish Water and our supply chain.
You’ll build a strong learning network within your assigned Capital Investment area. You’ll identify trends and themes in learning, support knowledge-sharing efforts, and help maintain a capital programme Learning Library. You’ll lead learning activities such as facilitating project reviews and conducting in-depth programme reviews based on management approaches.
Last but not least, you’ll scan for learning opportunities internally and externally, through platforms like Viva Engage, CLANN magazine and UKWIR papers, to ensure we’re continually improving and evolving our practices.
What you’ll need
You’ll bring a proactive, change-oriented mindset and be confident in championing and evolving the reflective learning culture within Scottish Water, the Capital Investment supply chain, and the wider water industry. You’ll need strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret, evaluate, and act on qualitative learning information. You will use these skills to identify themes and trends across the capital programme to facilitate and support prioritisation of improvement opportunities. Your willingness to ask questions, be curious and challenge for benefit will be key, as will your ability to promote and embed previous successes while addressing areas for improvement.
You’ll excel at building relationships, collaborating with a diverse range of individuals, teams, and organisations involved in delivering the capital programme. Your excellent facilitation, negotiation and influencing skills, along with strong written and oral communication abilities will allow you to translate complex experiences and challenges into relatable learning outputs. You’ll approach your work with confidence, engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels, while maintaining a self-motivated attitude to managing your workload and meet deadlines. Familiarity with standard Microsoft 365 software tools and a willingness to learn new systems will also be important.
Familiarity with Scottish Water’s operating model and the functions of its directorates would be an advantage. However, experience in other project delivery environments would also be beneficial. A background in root cause analysis, auditing, or investigation is desirable, but we’re happy to provide training if needed. While it’s not essential, some travel is required for the role, so holding a full UK driving license would also be helpful.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £41,000. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £51,970.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on 13th July 2025. Interviews are anticipated to be held w/c 21st July.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party and must be completed before your start date. Don’t worry - we’ll only start these checks once you’ve accepted an offer.
A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
