Job Description SummaryWe have an opening for a Knowledge and Innovation Attorney (“KIA”) dedicated to the Firm’s M&A and Private Equity practice groups (“Assigned PGs”).
This role is an important part of the Firm’s Innovation & Legal Solutions Department, working directly with the chairs of the Assigned PGs and the Chief Innovation Officer.
The KIA will serve as the Assigned PGs' lead on knowledge management, AI enablement, and practice innovation. Drawing on transactional experience and a practical understanding of AI and legal technology, the KIA will be a substantive legal, market, and practical knowledge resource to practice leaders and attorneys. The KIA will be responsible for the Assigned PGs' core knowledge assets, will help reimagine how the groups work, and will drive the effective adoption and responsible use of AI and technology in the delivery of legal services.
Job Description
In this capacity, the Knowledge & Innovation Attorney will:
Knowledge and Content Management:
· Develop and maintain model documents, forms, templates, checklists, and other practice resources for the Assigned PGs;
· Organize precedents and knowledge assets for easy search, reuse, and AI-enabled use;
· Assess the Assigned PGs' knowledge and practice support needs, and define and implement plans to address them;
· Monitor and communicate significant legal, regulatory, and market developments, and contribute to client alerts, presentations, and other thought leadership;
· Capture and maintain matter and experience data using Foundation and the Firm's matter intelligence dashboard to support client service, business development, and AI initiatives;
· Support practitioners in locating and using internal and external knowledge resources;
· Work with Assigned PG leadership and Talent Development to design and deliver substantive, knowledge, and technology training, including on AI tools; and
· Share best practices and lessons learned with peers across practice areas and the global KIA team.
AI, Technology and Innovation:
· Partner with attorneys to identify and prioritize high-value opportunities to improve legal workflows through AI, automation, and other technology, and translate them into defined use cases and requirements;
· Design, configure, test, and refine AI-enabled workflows, prompt libraries, and playbooks for the Assigned PGs;
· Coordinate pilots and proofs of concept, including setting success criteria, gathering feedback, and driving launch, adoption, and continuous improvement;
· Evaluate emerging technologies and their application to private equity and M&A practice;
· Collaborate with the Innovation & Legal Solutions Department on Firm-wide initiatives, and contribute to policies and guidance on responsible AI use and effective knowledge management; and
· Build relationships with industry peers and legal technology providers, and stay current on industry trends and best practices.
Proficiencies:
· Prior experience practicing as an M&A and Private Equity attorney, predominantly on public company transactions and Delaware law matters (at least 5 years required);
· Experience with knowledge management and legal innovation practices (preferred);
· Advanced knowledge of the workflows and core needs of public company M&A lawyers and Private Equity lawyers;
· Advanced proficiency in researching and drafting relevant legal documents and content, including model documents, forms and templates, practice process checklists, training materials, articles, client presentations, and client alerts;
· Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for generative AI, legal innovation, and emerging technologies relevant to legal practice;
· Ability to evaluate legal workflows and identify opportunities for improvement, knowledge sharing, automation, and technology enablement;
· Ability to translate attorney needs into practical knowledge, AI, and technology solutions;
· Strong communication, engagement, including the ability to build credibility with senior leaders, attorneys, clients and explain legal technology concepts in practical terms;
· Proficiency in developing training curricula and learning and development best practices;
· Ability to handle multiple projects, and prioritize effectively;
· Ability to work independently, and collaborate as a team member; and
· Commitment to continuous learning, with a demonstrated ability to evaluate and adapt to new technologies and ways of working.
Qualifications:
· Law degree and current bar admission or equivalent in the jurisdiction of your assigned Firm office and in the jurisdiction of your home state if different (required);
· Prior experience practicing as an M&A and Private Equity attorney, predominantly on public company transactions and Delaware law matters (required);
· At least 5 years of law firm practitioner experience (required); and
· Experience in a knowledge management role and/or legal innovation practices (preferred).
The salary wage range for Washington, DC that we expect to pay for this position is a minimum of $192,300 and a maximum of $260,000 annually. The actual pay wage may vary based on experience or other relevant factors.
