Provide first-line supervisory duties to the kiln employees. Will coordinate and direct the activities of hourly employees to maximize productivity and minimize costs, while maintaining safety and quality. Responsible for inspecting products to verify productions specifications are met, to train and supervise production personnel and perform other duties, as assigned.

The salary range for this position is $65,625-$109,375.  

The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position.  Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.  

This position is bonus eligible, with a target value of 10% of salary. 

Key Activities

Leadership & Supervisory

  • Supervise hourly production employees for both the green yard, dry kilns and Planer.
  • Inspect proper stacking & storage of green lumber and proper kiln package construction. Ensure proper kiln loading, operation and maintenance to achieve uniform drying conditions.
  • Manage the planer team to ensure safety, quality and production goals are achieved.
  • Train kiln operators and lift truck drivers in kiln operating procedures.
  • Train all planer mill operators so they can meet expectations and be held accountable.
  • Must be able to meet and or exceed budgeted key business indicators, which include kiln and planer uptime, grade recovery, waste and productivity.
  • Administer labor contract and employee handbook policies including handling employee complaints and grievances appropriately.
  • Support employee involvement

Safety

  • Develop a work culture, through leading by example, conductive to safe work habits by leading daily/weekly/monthly safety meetings.
  • Identify and troubleshoot potential problems and take corrective action to be sure serious equipment failures are avoided in the planer mill, kiln and forklift areas.
  • Participate as a salaried member of the plant wide safety team, follow-up on all hazard recognitions/near misses filed by employees and ensure work orders are entered into the system as necessary.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, forestry or related field preferred.
  • Five (5) years' experience of industry experience, at least one (1) of those in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word and UltiPro systems preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Must have good organizational and computer skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and energetic.
  • Must be willing to work night shift
