Job Description:
Psychiatric Nurse Manager who will practice psychiatric-mental health nursing. Provides clinical supervision, of LPN’s, RN’s, Charge nurses, and non-licensed nursing staff in the holistic care and treatment of patients including psychiatric and medical needs. Assists with hiring and onboarding within nursing department. Nurse supervisors may function as liaison with educational institutions, coordinating student tours and practicum placement. This professional nurse shall possess specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that have been obtained through education and experience in caring for persons with behavioral health needs, psychiatric disorders, co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders.
Expectations include participation in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementing, coordination of care, health teaching and health promotion of a unique patient population. Psychiatric-mental health nursing care functions include counseling (individual and group counseling) and safety management of the therapeutic milieu in a secure forensic facility. Provide counseling interventions including communication and interviewing techniques, problem-solving activities, crisis intervention, stress management, supportive skill building and educational groups, relaxation techniques, assertiveness training, and conflict resolution.

- Professional nursing education and experience caring for patients with behavioral health needs and psychiatric disorders
- Specialized knowledge and skills in psychiatric-mental health nursing
- Experience or competency caring for patients with co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders
- Ability to provide clinical supervision to RNs, LPNs, charge nurses, and non-licensed nursing staff
- Ability to provide psychiatric nursing interventions, counseling, crisis intervention, safety management, and therapeutic group support
