Position Summary

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Reading Specialist to oversee the school's Reading Intervention Program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Reporting directly to the K–8 Assistant Directors, the Reading Specialist works closely with students, teachers, and families to identify and address reading and language deficiencies, helping students develop the foundational literacy skills needed for long-term academic success.

The Reading Specialist analyzes student performance data to identify students requiring intervention, develops targeted instructional plans, and delivers evidence-based reading instruction aligned with the school's approved curriculum and instructional programs. This is an 11-month position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify students requiring reading intervention through analysis of internal assessments, standardized testing, and other student performance data.
  • Develop and implement individualized and small-group intervention plans designed to improve reading achievement and language development.
  • Provide direct reading intervention services to students in Kindergarten through Grade 8, with a primary focus on Grades K–6.
  • Monitor student progress using ongoing assessment data and adjust instruction to maximize student growth.
  • Maintain fidelity to the school's approved instructional programs, including Direct Instruction and Core Knowledge, ensuring consistency across intervention services.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, Reading Specialists, and school leadership to coordinate instructional support and align intervention strategies with classroom instruction.
  • Serve as the primary contact for families of students receiving reading intervention services and communicate student progress on a regular basis.
  • Prepare quarterly progress reports for students receiving intervention services to accompany report cards.
  • Attend parent-teacher conferences and other meetings as needed to discuss student progress and instructional recommendations.
  • Provide intervention services to newly identified students throughout the school year as enrollment and assessment data warrant.
  • Maintain accurate student records, intervention documentation, and progress-monitoring data.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the K–8 Assistant Directors in support of school operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Reading, Literacy, Special Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Massachusetts Reading Specialist license or eligibility preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in reading intervention, literacy instruction, or a related role preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction, reading intervention strategies, and assessment practices.
  • Experience analyzing student data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff.
  • Commitment to maintaining high instructional standards and supporting the school's academic mission.
  • Flexible, collaborative, and committed to continuous professional growth.
