The Junior Title Examiner provides administrative support for the department/office. The incumbent also works with the Title Examiners and Title Officers to examine abstracts and registered property abstracts or similar title evidence for any title defects or adverse information that could affect the transfer of title and to issue title commitments containing the results of the examination. Assists with special projects as needed and may act as backup to other office staff in their absence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)

  1. Provide administrative support as needed for the department/office. (45-50%)
  • Prepare, process, maintain, distribute and audit files and documents.
  • Perform data entry, generate searches and reports, and maintain logs to track data.
  • Communicate by means of personal contact, phone contact or written correspondence to customers, sales associates or other contacts.
  • Answer phone, respond to information requests or refer to the appropriate department.
  • Perform copying, filing, general typing/word processing and schedule appointments.
  • Process mail and courier deliveries, and help with mailings.
  • Bill for necessary fees.
  • Maintain supply and marketing inventories.  
  1. Examine Title evidence and produce a commitment reflecting the results of the examination. May confer with senior title staff, national underwriters and local council to ensure clear title. Search and examine public records to identify any encumbrances, tax liens or other defects that could affect the clear transfer of title. (30-35%)
  2. Cross-train in other areas and serve as a backup to other departmental staff (0-10%)
  3. Perform any additional responsibilities and special projects as requested or assigned. (0-5%)

Qualifications

Education:

  • Two-year Associates degree in business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years in the title or related industry.
  • Minimum of one year administrative or clerical experience.

 Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess a customer service focus.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and to work well under production deadlines, while handling multiple records concurrently.
  • Detail oriented, with excellent proofing skills.
  • Self-directed worker; ability to set work pace and work independently.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Other (licenses, certifications, schedule flexibility/OT, travel, etc.):

  • Position may require a title insurance license.

Wage:   $30.00 - $32.00 hourly; actual wage is based upon education and experience.
