Junior Software Engineer - Master Data Management and Integrations (all genders)

THE ROLE & THE TEAM

As a Junior Software Engineer, you will work in the Master Data Management and Integrations team, contributing to the design, development, and operation of data products that serve as a single source of truth for various consumers across Zalando. These data products support critical use cases. Multiple departments rely on this data, so maintaining high data quality standards will be a key part of your work.

You will help deliver scalable, efficient, and reliable data processing solutions while collaborating closely with stakeholders to meet their diverse needs. The team values diverse perspectives and is composed of talented individuals who enjoy solving complex problems and building impactful solutions for internal customers.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data products   

• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for the automated testing and deployment of data products

• Write clean, modular, readable, and testable code that is easy to maintain

• Support and maintain existing data products, ensuring data quality and adherence to standards

• Participate in code reviews to learn from your peers and contribute to improving code quality

• Learn to build and contribute to MicroStrategy Reports or other BI tools

• Contribute to Zalando’s engineering community by sharing best practices, supporting teammates, and learning from others

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF…

• You have some experience or a strong interest in working as a full-stack, backend, or data engineer, with exposure to technologies like Databricks (PySpark, Python), Delta format, Databricks Workflows, Unity Catalog and REST APIs. Java or Scala knowledge is a plus.

• You have a basic understanding or a willingness to learn the AWS ecosystem, including services like S3, Redshift, and AWS role management and secret token management.

• You have some experience with MicroStrategy or other Business Intelligence tools, or you’re excited to learn and grow your expertise in this area.

• You are self-driven, motivated, and eager to develop your analytical and problem-solving skills in a supportive team environment.

• You have a passion for solving challenges in the data space and are focused on delivering customer-centric solutions.

• You are familiar with fundamental software engineering practices such as design documentation, unit testing, peer code reviews, and agile methods, and are eager to improve in these areas.

• You are a creative thinker, value accountability, and are excited to contribute to team goals and personal growth.

• You are skilled at collaborating with engineering teams, managers, and product stakeholders from diverse technical and non-technical backgrounds.
