About Frogslayer

Frogslayer aims to be a top-tier talent destination for exceptional individuals who want to grow their careers long-term. Our people are committed, hard-working, and genuinely care about the well-being of each other and of Frogslayer. For the past seven years we have been recognized by *Inc.* and *Texas Monthly* as one of the best places to work in Texas and the US.
Who You Are
This is a part-time role for someone early in their career who is curious, detail-obsessed, and wants to grow into a well-rounded QA engineer. You'll be paired with a senior QA and given structured mentorship, but you'll also be trusted with real ownership as you ramp up. You're the kind of person who notices when something looks slightly off and keeps pulling the thread until you can explain exactly why.
What you'll do
- Write and execute detailed test cases, and contribute to test plans, ensuring strong functional coverage across core user flows and edge cases
- Perform hands-on functional, exploratory, and cross-browser/device testing to validate new features, bug fixes, and releases on web and mobile applications
- Support regression testing and release validation to help confirm product quality and stability ahead of a release
- Collaborate closely with engineers and product teams to identify, reproduce, isolate, and document defects — with precise reproduction steps, expected vs. actual results, accurate severity and priority, and supporting screenshots or screen recordings
- Shepherd defects through to verification and closure
- Maintain clear, organized QA documentation: test cases, regression suites, test data, test reports, and release validation summaries
- Participate in Agile ceremonies — daily standups and sprint planning, plus grooming and retrospectives as your schedule allows — so that QA is embedded throughout the development lifecycle, not bolted on at the end
- Ask questions early: surface ambiguous requirements and edge cases before development starts
- Investigate unexpected behavior proactively and contribute ideas that improve the overall quality and reliability of what we ship
- Grow into automated testing — creating automated tests using Claude Code with Playwright, building API test collections, and observing and assisting with CI/CD test runs, failure triage, and reusable test data
- Assist with basic API and database validation to confirm end-to-end behavior
What We're Looking For
Required
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent coursework/experience).
- Awareness of the software development lifecycle and Agile/Scrum concepts, with a willingness to learn how they work in practice.
- Proven interest in AI-assisted test automation, including tools like Claude Code paired with Playwright
- Excellent attention to detail, with a naturally methodical and skeptical approach to evaluating whether something actually works as intended.
- Strong written communication skills — able to describe a technical issue clearly and precisely for someone who wasn't there when it happened.
- Must be local to the Bryan/College Station, TX area
- Schedule that supports working 20 to 29 hours during a Monday through Friday work week
How You Work
- **Testing approach:** excellent attention to detail and a structured, methodical approach to evaluating software and identifying defects
- **Bug reporting:** clear, precise written communication — able to describe a technical issue accurately, including reproduction steps and supporting evidence
- **Problem-solving:** strong analytical skills and the ability to isolate issues, identify patterns, and reproduce problems consistently
- **Independence and collaboration:** comfortable working independently while also collaborating effectively with developers and fellow testers in a fast-paced environment
- **Time management:** able to work accurately and efficiently while managing varying workloads, priorities, and deadlines
- **Communication:** confident providing constructive feedback and discussing technical findings with the development and testing team
- **Mindset:** proactive and curious, and comfortable investigating unexpected behavior rather than only following predefined test cases
- **Flexibility:** willing to adapt to shifting testing schedules
Nice to Have
- Exposure to a test management or work-tracking tool (Azure DevOps, Jira)
- Basic familiarity with API testing tools (Postman, Bruno) and reading JSON responses
- Beginner-level SQL for data validation
