ABOUT THE COMPANY
EROAD is a global fleet management technology company that builds connected hardware and software for fleet operators, and growth across its device portfolio has created a new opening for a Junior Test Automation QA Engineer to join its Devices Team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will bring quality rigour to connected hardware and the systems around it, working hands on with physical devices and the pipelines that validate them.

  • Test device firmware, hardware integrations, APIs and backend services through a mix of manual and automated checks
  • Work directly with physical devices such as cameras and telematics adapters to validate real-world behaviour
  • Build automated test suites in Java or Kotlin using frameworks suited to device and firmware testing
  • Write supporting scripts to extend test coverage and automate validation tasks
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines so quality checks run continuously
  • Use Linux/Ubuntu environments day to day for device development and validation
  • Collaborate with developers and product stakeholders in a fast-paced agile team, reporting to the Chapter Lead

WHAT YOU NEED
We are looking for someone with a solid technical grounding rather than a long professional history.

  • Experience with Java, with Kotlin experience welcomed as a substitute or complement for test automation and framework work
  • An understanding of serial communication protocols including UART, SPI, I2C, RS-232, RS-485 and USB CDC
  • Comfort working in Linux/Ubuntu environments
  • Scripting ability in Python and Bash
  • Exposure to these areas can come from study, personal projects or early career work rather than formal QA roles
  • Familiarity with Cucumber or other BDD-based automation frameworks is a bonus
  • Ability to read hardware schematics and technical specifications is a plus
  • Exposure to JUnit, TestNG, Jenkins, GitHub Actions or modern CI/CD practices is an advantage
  • Awareness of Azure and/or AWS and how cloud platforms integrate with connected devices is useful
  • Experience using AI-assisted development or testing tools is a plus

WHY JOIN
This is a chance to grow your QA career inside a high-growth, publicly listed technology company building real connected products used at scale.

  • Work on hardware and software that keeps thousands of fleets running, with the chance to develop deep skills across firmware, automation and cloud-integrated systems
  • Join a multicultural, collaborative team and build your skills through continuous learning support, including AI tooling and EAP offerings
  • No prior professional QA title is required, so you can build your career here from a genuine technical grounding rather than a job history
  • Be part of a company trading on both the NZX and ASX, with a track record of rapid growth across New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines and the USA

Skills Required

  • Experience with Java; Kotlin may be used as a substitute or complement
  • Understanding of serial communication protocols including UART, SPI, I2C, RS-232, RS-485, and USB CDC
  • Comfort working in Linux or Ubuntu environments
  • Scripting ability in Python and Bash
  • Familiarity with Cucumber or other BDD-based automation frameworks
  • Ability to read hardware schematics and technical specifications
  • Exposure to JUnit, TestNG, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or modern CI/CD practices
  • Awareness of Azure or AWS and cloud integration with connected devices
  • Experience using AI-assisted development or testing tools
