Important: this role is only open to candidates already based in the Netherlands (NL). We work on-site in Amsterdam and cannot support relocation/visa sponsorship for this position.
Join one of the world’s most trusted Mother & Childcare brands and help design products used by millions of parents and babies worldwide. As a Junior Product Designer at Philips Avent, you will grow as an all-round industrial designer including CMF and UX/UI - while learning directly from highly experienced senior designers. You’ll work hands-on with engineers and user researchers to bring ideas to life, from early sketches to working prototypes with our global supplier network.
Your role
As part of the Philips Avent Experience Innovation Design team, you will work across a broad portfolio and the full design process — from fuzzy front end to products ready for launch. You’ll take real ownership, contribute to award-winning product and CMF design, and collaborate closely with our lead designer and innovation hubs in Europe and Asia.
You will:
- Design meaningful consumer hardware products by balancing usability, form, function, feasibility, CMF, and UX/UI
- Ideate and develop concepts through sketching, form studies, CMF exploration, CAD, prototyping, visualization, and storytelling
- Translate trends and user insights into design directions aligned with our product design language and the needs of young families
- Create and integrate colors, materials, finishes, decorations/graphics, and patterns that elevate the product experience and fit with our Philips Color Palette
- Collaborate with R&D teams and suppliers in Europe and Asia, refining designs into manufacturable solutions
- Support CMF execution, including sample reviews, documentation, and hands-on refinement
- Contribute to early innovation explorations shaping future Philips Avent product experiences
Contract & location
This is a 1-year, part-time role (0.8 FTE) with a minimum of 3 days per week on-site in Amsterdam. While the initial contract is for 1 year, the business is growing and the intent is to extend the role longer-term, subject to performance and business needs.
What’s in it for you
- Learn from some of Philips’ strongest senior designers in product design and CMF
- Build a portfolio spanning FMCG products and smart devices, with real products that launch globally
- Grow fast through hands-on prototyping, user testing, and supplier feedback loops
- Work in a small, collaborative team with real responsibility from day one
Signals of a strong fit (what we’ll look for in your portfolio)
- Clear evidence of consumer product design (not only concept art), with strong form development rationale and a qualitative, well-resolved aesthetic
- Form exploration (iterations) and exceptional sketching skills, both on paper as well as digital
- Strong sense of trends and CMF thinking, yet practical in application of materials/finishes/graphics and how they support brand + user experience
- Strong CAD skills and visualization quality, preferably with strong surface modelling skills
- Awareness of manufacturability and willingness to learn through samples and constraints
This role is likely not a fit if your portfolio is mainly
- Furniture / art / installations (e.g., chairs, lamps) without large scale consumer product development evidence
- UI/UX, service design, interaction flows, or digital-only concepts (e.g. apps, VR/AR)
- Sustainability/social design frameworks with limited product form + CMF execution
You’re the right fit if
- You have 1–3 years of experience in product/industrial design, with exposure to CMF design
- You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related
- You’re a T-shaped designer: strong product design fundamentals + affinity for CMF, trends, and visual storytelling
- You’re hands-on and practical, with experience in Adobe Creative Suite, 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks/Rhino), rendering (e.g., KeyShot), and prototyping
- You work structured, ask smart questions, and use feedback to improve fast
- You are already based in the Netherlands (NL) and can be on-site in Amsterdam at least 3 days/week
