The Role
As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you'll develop hardware for autonomous tractors, maintain CAD models, support prototype builds, and improve designs based on real-world feedback.
Summary Generated by Built In

At Voltrac, we are on a mission to strengthen Europe’s food security and defence with an autonomous electric tractor to free farmers from drudgery and keep soldiers out of harm’s way. The 3.5 tonnes platform is currently being tested at vineyards, olive orchards and citrus groves across Spain - check out our website to see it in action. We are about to scale manufacturing to 100 units yearly, and are looking for that person that is hungry to learn and make something new surrounded by great engineers.

Who we are

Voltrac was founded by Francisco Infante Aguirre and Thomas Hubregtsen in 2024. Francisco used to build hydrogen-powered supersonic planes at Destinus and heavy-lifting eVTOLs at Volocopter, but comes from a family that builds and sells tractor implements in over 25 countries. Thomas used to accelerate Machine Learning using GPUs, TPUs, and Quantum Computers at Google X, IBM and BMW, as well as started San Francisco-based Extropic introducing Thermodynamic computers, but also had his first job at a farm.

Together, they set their sights on shaking up the market, competing directly with incumbents and startups alike. In their journey, they are supported by investors such as Extantia, Foodlabs, Antler, Push, and Prototype, who together committed a total of 9M in funding. With this, they were able to open up shop in a 1200 m² facility in Valencia, with 300 m² of natural‑light office and a 900 m² workshop. Valencia is consistently voted as one of Europe’s top places to live based on its low cost of living, excellent climate, and vibrant historic centre. The team is young, comes from different backgrounds, and loves to have team bbqs, but share one aim: shape Europe’s agriculture and defence with machines that do real work.

What you will work on

As a Junior Mechanical Engineer you will help turn first principle simplicity into hardware that is easy to build, easy to service and robust in the field. You will work closely with senior engineers, but you will also be expected to get your hands dirty in the workshop and learn quickly from field feedback. You are expected to support and progressively own mechanical subsystems from CAD to prototype build and field testing, improving reliability and serviceability with every iteration. More specifically:

  • Create and maintain CAD models and drawings for vehicle structures, mounts, housings and modular interfaces.

  • Generate BOMs and support procurement with clear specifications and supplier communication.

  • Support design iterations based on workshop builds and field-test feedback.

  • Assist with basic analyses (hand calcs, FEA under guidance) and participate in design reviews.

  • Support prototype assembly and testing in the workshop; learn how parts behave in real use.

  • Document designs and build instructions so changes remain traceable and scalable.

What we value
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) and strong fundamentals (statics, dynamics, materials).

  • Proficiency in a 3D CAD tool and ability to produce clear drawings.

  • Hands-on mindset: willingness to support builds and learn from real hardware testing.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English; Spanish is strongly preferred for day-to-day collaboration in Spain.

  • Internship or project experience building physical prototypes.

Benefits

We offer a rare opportunity to see real machines in use on the field. This opportunity brings you as close as you can get to bringing the future to fruition.

The offer has a very competitive base salary, equity participation plan and aid in relocation. Most importantly, we want to offer perks that are important to you. We'd love to hear what you value!
