Job Description

As a  Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will  contribute to the design, development, and testing of the physical components and systems of our robots. Your responsibilities will span mechanical engineering, design for manufacturing and assembly, and the integration of electronic systems, working with the rest of the hardware team to ensure that our robots meet specific application requirements and are cost-effective for large-scale production. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated experience transitioning projects from prototyping and proof-of-concepts to MVPs, final products and mass production. What you’ll be doing

  • Design and develop electro-mechanical assemblies, robotic payloads, and actuators for our robots.
  • Build prototypes to evaluate functionality and performance.
  • Work closely with electronics engineers to integrate printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) into mechanical structures.
  • Perform rigorous testing and evaluations to verify the reliability, durability, and safety of robotic hardware.
  • Create detailed hardware documentation, including specifications, assembly instructions, and testing protocols.
  • Create and maintain documentation, guidelines, and best practices to streamline knowledge sharing.
  • Improve design standards and processes through active participation in design reviews.

What you must have

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as Engineering, Robotics, Automotive or Aerospace.
  • A minimum of 2 years of industry or research experience.
  • Experienced in CAD software for mechanical design.
  • Deep understanding of actuators, motors, materials, design for manufacturing, power transmission, mechanisms, and manufacturing technologies.
  • Good knowledge of rapid prototyping technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, adept at debugging and optimizing hardware components.

Get some bonus points

  • Master’s degree or relevant experience in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Automotive Engineering, or an equivalent amount of research experience.
  • Familiarity with design for mass production.
  • Experience interfacing with control systems and integrating electronics.
  • Experienced with control systems applicable to consumer drones, AMR, and electric bicycles.
