How do we work?

Joining us you will be a part of a global Legal Team and you will report to the Assistant General Counsel in New York. We are looking for a proactive, hands-on legal professional who takes true ownership, actively manages legal risks, and drives corporate governance excellence across our retail brokerage. In this role, you will shape our day-to-day legal landscape, collaborating with commercial and compliance teams to negotiate business agreements - from NDAs to global commercial partnerships - that drive impact and ensure compliance on a global scale.

We work in a hybrid model - we would love to meet you in the office 2 days a week with respect to your own commitments.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage day-to-day legal matters arising from US and Canadian operations, including matters relating to corporate governance.

  • Advise on and negotiate a wide range of commercial arrangements relating to the North American business.

  • Anticipate, identify and escalate legal issues of concern.

  • Play a supporting role within the Legal Department in connection with all legal matters, including relating to employment, intellectual property, privacy, cybersecurity, compliance-related issues and any and all other legal issues that may arise globally.

  • Support the delivery of strategic projects for the Legal Department.

  • Contribute to team development, scaling, efficiency and improvement.

What skillset do you need to be successful in this role?

  • Min. 2 years of hands-on experience with a law firm or as in-house counsel, but impact matters more than years.

  • Strong foundation in corporate governance.

  • Bar membership in good standing, or currently in pursuit of an apprenticeship/qualification towards it.

  • Ability to manage complexity - making sense of high-quantity or contradictory information to solve problems.

  • Planning and organizational skills, with a strong ability to prioritize tasks and deliver high-quality results on time.

  • Strategic thinking with a detail-oriented approach to execution, compliance, and proactive risk management.

Nice to have

  • Working experience in FinTech, the FX/trading sector, derivatives, payment services, or cryptocurrency from a commercial and legal perspective.

  • Regulatory experience within the global financial services industry.

Your perspective matters. We encourage you to apply even if you are hesitant about meeting every single qualification. We are excited to see what you can bring to the team!

What We Do

Everyone at OANDA is focused on our vision to transform how our customers can meet all their currency needs. From our roots in 1996 that provided free currency exchange information to launching a multi-award winning global FX and CFD trading business to our recent new venture of money transfer. OANDA is now a major global player. Innovation has been at the heart of everything we do and our approach is to pioneer intuitive, user-friendly products supported by our great customer service ethos. We’ve come a long way since our first data feed went live in 1996, and we still have so much more that we want to achieve. Substantial funding has facilitated our exceptional growth. In 2007 we received $100M USD in Series B funding and in 2018 were acquired by CVC Capital Partners Asia Fund IV. For more information, please visit oanda.com. You can follow us on Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube. Leveraged trading is high risk and may not be suitable for everyone as your losses may exceed your investment.
