Junior Financial Controller (Baltics)
Diverse Minds. Bold Disruptors. Meaningful Impact.
AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-focused biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of prescription medicines for some of the world’s most serious diseases. But we’re more than one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.
It’s our patients that come first. Every decision we make and action we take is centered around how we can better respond to their evolving needs, as well as those of healthcare professionals and partners. It’s why we are shaping patient care for the future, working along the whole experience to give hope to billions of lives across the world.
Build your finance career with exposure across three Baltic markets
At AstraZeneca, we put patients first and work together to turn ambitious ideas into meaningful impact.
If you’re at the beginning of your career in finance and looking for an opportunity where you can learn, develop and take ownership of meaningful finance activities, this could be a great next step.
As Junior Financial Controller, Baltics, you’ll take responsibility for a range of finance activities across Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, gaining practical experience across financial reporting, accounting, purchase-to-pay, tax, audit and financial controls.
You’ll work alongside experienced finance colleagues, including the Financial Controller and CFO, as well as business teams, shared services and external partners. You don’t need to be an expert in every area from day one. What’s important is that you have a good foundation in finance or accounting, enjoy working with numbers and are motivated to learn, take responsibility and see tasks through to completion.
What you'll be doing
Develop your financial accounting experience
· Take ownership of assigned activities as part of month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial close.
· Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for assigned areas and follow up on outstanding items through to resolution.
· Review financial information and supporting documentation, taking responsibility for identifying and escalating discrepancies or incorrect postings.
· Contribute to the accurate and timely delivery of statutory reporting, audits and internal financial controls.
· Work with experienced colleagues to investigate issues, taking ownership of agreed actions and following them through to completion.
Take responsibility for day-to-day finance operations
· Take ownership of resolving routine invoice, payment, purchase order and goods receipt queries, working with relevant colleagues when additional input is required.
· Follow up proactively on invoices that require additional information or action, ensuring issues continue to progress.
· Review open purchase orders and supplier balances and take appropriate follow-up actions to support accurate period-end reporting.
· Work with business users, shared service teams and external providers to drive timely resolution of issues and keep finance processes moving effectively.
Grow your knowledge and responsibilities
As your experience develops, you’ll take on increasing responsibility and ownership across areas including:
· VAT and corporate income tax
· Treasury and payments
· Audit and statutory reporting
· IFRS 16 activities
· Internal financial controls
Help us work smarter
We’re also looking for someone curious about how finance processes can be improved and willing to take ownership of identifying and progressing opportunities for improvement.
You’ll have opportunities to:
· Investigate recurring issues, identify root causes and take responsibility for agreed follow-up actions.
· Contribute to and take ownership of defined improvements that simplify and standardise finance processes.
· Explore automation, analytics, AI and other approved digital tools to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
· Play an active role in Baltic, regional and global finance initiatives.
You’ll own the tasks and activities assigned to you, manage them against agreed deadlines and follow them through to completion. You won’t, however, be expected to solve complex accounting, tax or treasury questions on your own. You’ll have experienced colleagues and specialists to support you, while being encouraged to raise issues early, ask the right questions and take responsibility for progressing actions within your remit.
What we're looking for
· A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related subject.
· Some initial experience in finance, accounting, audit, shared services or controlling.
· Around 1–3 years of relevant experience, although we also encourage applications from recent graduates with meaningful internship or placement experience.
· A good foundation in accounting principles.
· Some familiarity with areas such as accounts payable, invoices, purchase orders or period-end activities.
· Practical Excel skills, including experience working with detailed data, lookups and pivot tables.
· Fluency in English.
· Good organisational skills and the ability to take ownership of priorities, manage deadlines and follow tasks through to completion.
· A proactive mindset, with the confidence to raise questions, follow up on outstanding actions and take responsibility for the quality of your work.
