About the Role

Scientech Research is seeking an Analyst - Management Company and Fund Accounting to join our Finance team. This role provides broad exposure across both the investment management company and our fund complex, supporting the recurring accounting cycle from month-end close through financial reporting, NAV oversight, investor capital accounting, treasury, and budgeting.

Working closely with our third-party fund administrator, prime broker, auditors, tax advisors, and external vendors, you will contribute to the day-to-day financial operations of the firm while helping strengthen the infrastructure that supports a growing investment platform. You will also play an active role in the continued development of our internally built fund accounting system through process improvement and automation initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates coming from a fund administrator or public accounting background who are looking to transition to the buy side and gain exposure across the full finance function rather than a single component of the accounting close.

Responsibilities

Management Company Accounting

  • Support the monthly close and financial reporting process for the management company, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, management reporting, and financial analysis.

  • Coordinate accounts payable activities across the management company and fund entities, including vendor onboarding, invoice processing, payment execution, contract renewals, and ongoing vendor administration.

  • Prepare recurring budget-to-actual, period-over-period, and cash flow analyses, with clear commentary on material variances and underlying business drivers.

  • Monitor management company liquidity, support short-term cash flow planning, and assist with the semi-annual budget and periodic forecast updates.

  • Reconcile management and incentive fee receipts and maintain the supporting schedules used in management reporting and cash planning.

Fund Accounting

  • Prepare monthly NAV calculations, management and incentive fee calculations, and the supporting accounting schedules across the master-feeder structure.

  • Administer the monthly fund expense allocation process, including allocation methodologies, supporting documentation, accruals, cash movements, and true-up adjustments.

  • Reconcile prime broker records to administrator accounting records, maintain shadow accounting schedules, and investigate reconciling items before NAV finalization.

  • Review administrator-prepared NAV packages and related reporting, challenge exceptions, and help ensure the completeness and accuracy of reported balances.

  • Maintain investor capital accounts, including subscriptions, redemptions, income and expense allocations, and ending capital balances.

  • Prepare master-to-feeder profit and loss allocations across the offshore feeder, onshore feeder, and general partner, and support recurring investor reporting.

Process Improvement & Controls

  • Contribute to the continued development of the firm's proprietary fund accounting platform by identifying process improvements, documenting requirements, and validating system enhancements.

  • Assist with automation initiatives designed to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and reduce manual work across recurring finance processes.

  • Maintain organized, well-supported, review-ready workpapers and process documentation that can be independently traced to source.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

  • 1-3 years of experience in fund accounting, fund administration, or financial services audit or tax, preferably with exposure to hedge funds or private investment funds.

  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, partnership accounting, and hedge fund capital activity, including subscriptions, redemptions, allocations, and performance-based fee calculations.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience working with large linked workbooks, reconciliation schedules, and financial models.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and produce accurate, high-quality work under recurring deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting master-feeder fund structures, including offshore feeders.

  • Fund tax exposure through public accounting, fund administration, or an asset management environment. We are not asking you to prepare returns; what we value is the pattern recognition to identify withholding implications, PTP exposure, and other items with potential tax consequences as they arise.

  • CPA or CFA designation, or progress toward either.

  • Experience performing prime broker reconciliations or maintaining shadow accounting records.

  • Familiarity with institutional fund accounting platforms such as Advent Geneva, Enfusion, SS&C, or similar systems.

  • Exposure to automation tools such as Python, Power Query, VBA, or similar technologies.

What We're Looking For

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a disciplined approach to reconciliation-driven work.

  • Strong organization and the ability to produce clear, consistently formatted, review-ready workpapers.

  • Independent analytical thinking, including the ability to develop and test a hypothesis when results appear inconsistent.

  • Proactive communication and sound judgment in escalating issues before they become problems.

  • Initiative, accountability, and a genuine interest in improving the processes you inherit.

You will thrive in this role if you enjoy working in a collaborative, high-accountability environment where responsibilities are broad and learning opportunities are significant.

This role is based in our Jersey City office five days per week.
