Requisition ID:R026911

Job Description:

Elsewhere Entertainment is looking for a talented Junior Engine Programmer to join our team and help shape the foundation of our next-generation AAA experiences on our new IP.

In this role, you will support the development, maintenance, and optimization of our engine systems and workflows, with a focus on performance, stability, scalability, and rapid iteration. You will work closely with experienced engineers, designers, artists, and other content creators to help deliver tools and technology that support ambitious gameplay and creative experiences.

As an individual contributor on the project, you’ll help take the studio and our game from great to even better—with a focus on inclusivity, mutual respect (for ourselves and our players), thoughtfulness, empathy, professionalism, and collaboration

You’ll help us by…

  • Maintaining, improving, and optimizing engine systems with guidance from more experienced engineers.

  • Supporting our technology stack as we build for current and future platforms.

  • Working with designers, artists, and programmers to help turn creative ideas into solid, shippable features.

  • Learning from peers, asking good questions, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a healthy codebase.

  • Debugging issues, investigating performance problems, and helping the engine behave more reliably.

  • Writing clear, maintainable code and improving it through review, iteration, and feedback.

You are awesome because you have…

  • Some professional programming experience, internship experience, or an equivalent mix of education, personal projects, academic work, and relevant experience.

  • Good foundational proficiency in C/C++, with an understanding of 3D math, common data structures, and practical algorithms.

  • Interest or experience in game engine systems, gameplay technology, tools, rendering, animation, physics, UI, AI, audio, online systems, or similar areas.

  • A working understanding of modular architecture, object-oriented programming, design patterns, and event-driven systems.

  • Comfort learning and working in existing codebases, including code you did not write yourself.

  • A habit of writing clean, readable code that other humans can understand.

  • Curiosity, patience, and a willingness to learn from more experienced engineers while contributing your own ideas.

  • Experience contributing to a game, technical demo, academic project, commercial project, mod, tool, or substantial real-time application.

Bonus points for…

  • Practical experience writing games in C++, proprietary engines, or other real-time development environments.

  • Experience with profiling, debugging, optimization, or platform-specific development.

  • Contributions to game jams, mods, open-source projects, technical demos, or student games.
