🚀 Ready to join the future of innovation in our team at NXP?

The ROM team build the first code that runs on a microcontroller - ROM-embedded software that kickstarts the system, sets up the hardware, and locks down security. It’s lean, fast, and built to last. We collaborate closely with hardware, validation, and security teams to ensure everything works seamlessly from power-on to production.

🔍 Responsibilities – What We Do

  • Contribute to the development of innovative and high‑quality software products that support our long‑term vision.
  • Take part in shaping clear requirements, designing system architecture, and maintaining well‑structured code and configurations.
  • Work independently while collaborating effectively across teams to plan, design, and deliver software solutions that address customer needs and improve product performance.
  • Develop ROM firmware in early development stages, ensuring functionality even before hardware silicon becomes available.
  • Conduct thorough verification and debugging in pre‑silicon environments, consistently aiming for complete test coverage and reliable delivery.
  • Strengthen critical parts of the codebase to ensure our ROM firmware remains secure and resilient against potential physical or logical threats.
  • Follow prescribed security frameworks, including EdgeLock requirements, and ensure compliance with relevant safety and security standards.

💻 Technical Knowledge – What You Bring

To thrive in this role, you should bring:

  • Practical experience with embedded programming in C and enthusiasm for working close to hardware.
  • A solid understanding of microcontroller architecture fundamentals.
  • Analytical mindset and reliable debugging skills for embedded targets and low‑level software.
  • Familiarity with standard software development workflows, processes, and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of GIT or other version control tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.

It’s a plus if you also have experience with:

  • ROM code or bootloader development.
  • Automotive development standards such as ASPICE or ISO 26262.
  • Working with low‑level drivers for ARM‑based microcontrollers.
  • Developing or testing embedded software for microcontrollers.
  • Real‑time operating systems in embedded environments.
  • Scripting languages like Python, and build tools such as make.

🧩 Personal Skills – Who You Are

We’re looking for engineers who combine solid technical foundations with a proactive, ownership‑driven mindset. At this level, you’re comfortable taking responsibility for your work, collaborating with others, and continuously refining your expertise.

We value people who demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills, especially when working with complex or low‑level systems.
  • A structured and reliable work style, with the ability to plan tasks, manage priorities, and deliver on commitments.
  • Clear and open communication, enabling effective collaboration with architects, senior engineers, and cross‑functional teams.
  • A proactive and curious attitude, always looking for ways to improve solutions, processes, or product quality.
  • Ownership and accountability, taking initiative and driving tasks to completion—even when challenges appear along the way.
  • Team spirit, including a willingness to share knowledge, ask questions when needed, and contribute to a positive engineering culture.

In this role, you’ll have space to grow, expand your technical depth, and take increasing ownership of features and system components — all within a supportive engineering environment focused on excellence and collaboration.
