Position Description


U.S. Soccer is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to support strategic technology projects. This individual will join U.S. Soccer’s growing product team and support scalable data warehouse solutions, integrate new systems with existing infrastructure, manage our identity resolution process, and align data ingestion with business objectives. This position reports to the Vice President of Engineering.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Integrate new data sources and ensure seamless data flow and accessibility across the organization. 
  • Implement and manage Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes to move data from various sources into the warehouse. 
  • Assist in the development and testing of new features, models, or data processes within our data warehouses, leveraging feedback to drive continuous improvement. 
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of data within the warehouse, establishing policies and auditing regularly. 
  • Monitor and optimize database and system performance, troubleshooting issues to ensure efficiency. 
  • Document technical designs, workflows, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintain system documentation. 
  • Assist with our in-house unification process and all downstream data integrations. 
  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure integrity and quality of data throughout the entire data lifecycle, from ingestion to analysis, by implementing data validation and cleansing processes. 

Requirements

  

Minimum Qualifications 

  • 0-2 years experience with cloud-based BI and data solutions (AWS preferred) 
  • Proven experience operating production pipelines 
  • Strong foundation in Python and SQL 
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field 
  • Strong experience delivering reliable data sets for BI, analytics, and data science—with real ownership of data quality, testing, and documentation
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
  • Experience working with relational and dimensional data models 
  • Must be a self-starter comfortable working in a fast-paced, flexible environment, and take the initiative to learn new tools and concepts quickly
  • General knowledge of soccer
  • Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)

Desired Qualifications 

  • Experience utilizing Prefect for data orchestration 
  • Experience managing data warehouses in AWS Redshift 
  • A background in, and passion for, soccer, sports and/or entertainment is preferred 
  • Familiarity with Salesforce data structure and concepts 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, tasks, and priorities 
  • Collaborative, team-player with a results-driven mindset 
  • Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission
