Hybrid Work Model

At Assent, we proudly embrace a remote-first work model, valuing the flexibility and autonomy it provides our team. We also acknowledge the intangible benefits of occasional in-person workdays. For team members situated within 50 kms/31 miles of our five global offices in Ottawa, Eldoret, Penang, Columbus, Pune and Amsterdam, you can expect to come into the office 1-3 days a week. Similarly, those near our co-working spaces in Nairobi and Toronto are encouraged to work onsite once a month.

The Junior Data Architect plays an important supporting role in implementing Assent’s data strategy through the design, maintenance, and improvement of our data platform architecture. Reporting to the Manager, Data Engineering & Operations, this role works closely with the Data Architect to ensure our data systems are scalable, secure, and well-aligned with the needs of our SaaS products and internal analytics initiatives.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong data engineering foundation who is passionate about data architecture and infrastructure. The Junior Data Architect contributes to evolving our data models, integration patterns, and platform design, while learning to balance long-term architectural goals with day-to-day delivery.

Key Requirements & Responsibilities 

• Collaborate closely with the Data Architect to implement, maintain, and evolve data platform architecture patterns and standards that support Assent’s SaaS products and internal data services

• Develop and document logical and physical data models, integration patterns, and data flows in alignment with architecture guidelines

• Partner with Data Engineers and Infrastructure teams to implement robust, scalable, and secure data pipelines and storage solutions

• Contribute to design reviews by providing input on data modeling, performance, and architecture alignment

• Assist with implementation of data governance, quality, and security controls in collaboration with the Data Engineering, Data Governance, Security, and Infrastructure teams

• Contribute to the documentation of architectural decisions, standards, and best practices to support platform maintainability and knowledge sharing

• Participate in Agile planning and cross-team collaboration to align data initiatives with business needs

• Be familiar with corporate security policies and follow the guidance set out by processes and procedures of Assent

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field

• 3–5 years of experience in data engineering or data platform development

• Strong understanding of data modeling and relational database design (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL)

• Experience building and operating event driven systems at scale

• Background with cloud data platforms (AWS preferred) and tools such as Redshift, Glue, S3, or similar

• Familiarity with data pipeline orchestration (e.g., Airflow, dbt) and modern ELT/ETL practices

• Awareness of data governance, security, and compliance principles

• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code, containerization, or CI/CD pipelines is an asset

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Clear communicator who collaborates effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
