Blue Robotics makes affordable, high-quality hardware and software for marine robotics - from underwater thrusters and ROVs to autonomous surface vehicles and the software that runs them. What does this really mean? We design cool tech for use underwater that allows tons of people and organizations to pursue their audacious dreams of exploring and learning about our oceans and waterways.
We have a small and vibrant design team in Victoria, BC, with a collaborative spirit that is both humble and bold. We work together to navigate all design steps from the whiteboard to fully tested, volume-manufactured products.
About the Role
We are looking to add someone to join our team who thinks about the world a little differently—someone who is already noticing that designs must strike a balance between technical elegance, manufacturability, and usability. We’re searching for a person who is keen to expand their skills and capabilities, who yearns to make courageous and creative choices in their designs while embracing both the advantages and limitations of modern manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
- Design new and complex mechanical assemblies for volume manufacturing
- Perform mechanical design analysis, simulation, and calculations
- Evaluate system failure modes, create and execute validation plans
- Test on the bench and in the ocean
- Design and validate production and test equipment
- Find, communicate with, and build relationships with new suppliers
Qualifications
- Designed and built a bunch of interesting things so far, showing deep expertise with 3D modeling
- Deep, insatiable impulse to understand and leverage that understanding to create new things
- Innate desire to collaborate, learn, and adapt
- Strong and growing foundation of engineering first principles
Benefits

Salary Range:
$90,000.00 to $110,000.00 CAD
Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, and experience
Skills Required
- Demonstrated experience designing and building projects with strong 3D modeling expertise
- Strong foundation in engineering first principles and mechanical design analysis
- Ability to perform simulations, calculations, and evaluate system failure modes
- Willingness to test prototypes in lab and ocean environments and validate designs
- Ability to design and validate production and test equipment and work with suppliers
- Collaborative mindset with desire to learn and adapt
