Software Consultant - Data Engineer

What you’ll do
● Design, develop, and operate ETL/ELT pipelines using Python (Pandas) to meet defined SLOs for freshness, latency, and completeness.
● Write performant SQL for PostgreSQL and Trino; implement and maintain dimensional models and curated datasets.
● Architect and manage AWS data solutions (S3, Glue, Athena, etc.); optimize for scalability, resiliency, performance, and cost.
● Build infrastructure as code with Terraform; version, review, and automate provisioning and changes.
● Implement and optimize CI/CD on AWS for data code and IaC: automate build, test, security scans, and releases.
● Embed security in the SDLC: secure coding, secrets management, least-privilege IAM, encryption, and vulnerability remediation integrated into pipelines.
● Leverage AI-powered tools in coding, testing, deployment, and monitoring to improve quality and delivery speed.
● Create and maintain visualizations and dashboards in Superset (or similar) to enable self-service analytics.
● Troubleshoot complex data issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventive fixes and documentation.
● Collaborate with product, analytics, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable, reliable data solutions.

● ETL/ELT SLOs consistently met or exceeded; reliable, on-time data availability.
● Data quality KPIs improve: higher rule pass rates, fewer defects and reprocessing incidents.
● CI/CD and IaC efficiency: faster lead time for changes, higher deployment frequency, low change failure rate, and rapid MTTR.
● Strong security posture: zero critical vulnerabilities; compliant secrets, IAM, and encryption practices.
● Cost and performance optimized across Athena/Trino and AWS services.
● Clear communication and positive feedback from stakeholders; dependable cross-functional collaboration.
● Demonstrable gains from AI-assisted development and continuous improvement initiatives.
What you’ll bring
● 5+ years of hands-on data engineering with Python, building and operating ETL/ELT pipelines; strong Pandas experience.
● Advanced SQL skills with PostgreSQL and Trino; experience with dimensional modeling.
● Proven experience with AWS data services: S3, Glue, Athena; plus exposure to Lambda, Secrets Manager, RDS, DynamoDB, Lake Formation, DMS, and API Gateway.
● CI/CD proficiency on AWS and strong understanding of data engineering best practices.
● Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform.
● Familiarity with visualization tools such as Superset (or similar).
● Security-first mindset: secure coding, vulnerability management, and integrating security checks into CI/CD.
● Experience working in Agile teams; track record of shipping quality deliverables every sprint.
● Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
● Strength in understanding business requirements and delivering well-designed, maintainable components.
● Curiosity and drive to adopt new technologies (including AI tools) to maximize development efficiency.
