Position Summary

The Job Developer is responsible for creating and securing employment opportunities for individuals who face barriers to employment, including individuals with disabilities and those experiencing economic hardships. This position serves as a liaison between job seekers and employers, providing career guidance, job placement services, and ongoing support to ensure successful and sustained employment outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities

Employer Outreach and Business Development

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with local businesses and community employers.
  • Identify and cultivate employment opportunities, internships, and work-based learning experiences for program participants.
  • Conduct employer outreach activities to promote the benefits of hiring individuals served by the program.

Career Planning and Job Readiness

  • Assist participants with career exploration and vocational planning.
  • Provide support with resume development, job applications, and interview preparation.
  • Conduct job readiness training and workshops to enhance employability skills.

Job Development and Placement

  • Assess participant strengths, interests, skills, and employment goals.
  • Match participants with suitable employment opportunities based on their abilities and preferences.
  • Negotiate job duties, schedules, and workplace accommodations with employers when necessary.

Employment Support and Retention

  • Provide ongoing follow-up and support to participants and employers after placement.
  • Coordinate or provide on-site job coaching and training as needed.
  • Address workplace concerns and assist with problem-solving to promote job retention and career advancement.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely participant records, case notes, and employment outcomes.
  • Prepare required reports and documentation in accordance with agency, state, federal, and funding source requirements.
  • Monitor participant progress and ensure compliance with all program standards and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in vocational services, workforce development, supported employment, or a related field.
  • Strong communication, networking, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of employment resources, workplace accommodations, and disability-related employment practices preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel within the community to meet with employers, participants, and service providers.
  • Ability to conduct presentations and attend community outreach events as needed.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office, community, and employer-based settings.
  • Flexible schedule may be required to accommodate participant and employer needs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Rehabilitation, or related field (preferred)
  • Experience working with individuals with IDD
  • Knowledge of supported employment models
  • Strong communication and networking skills
  • Understanding of person-centered planning
  • Familiar OPWDD guideline and Vocational Service training
  • Valid 2 year New York State Driver's License 

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Rehabilitation, Business, or related field

  • Knowledge of supported employment models
