JOB SUMMARY

The Job Cost Manager oversees project finances by developing and managing procedures to ensure profitability and success. They provide advisory services on cost strategy, contract negotiation, and risk management to proposal and project teams. In collaboration with project managers and operations, this role monitors expenditure, analyzes variances, and offers actionable insights to management.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project budgets and financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with organizational strategic goals and profitability targets.
  2. Conduct comprehensive variance analysis by comparing standard versus actual production and project costs, and prepare regular, insightful financial reports for senior management and stakeholders.
  3. Implement and maintain robust cost control measures, identify cost drivers, and recommend strategies for cost-saving initiatives and continuous business process improvements.
  4. Oversee inventory costing and valuation processes, ensure accurate recording of transactions, and collaborate with procurement teams to optimize material costs and negotiate contracts.
  5. Partner with teams such as engineering, operations, and sales to provide guidance on cost management best practices and support pricing strategies.
  6. Conduct scenario analysis to support strategic decision-making, such as evaluating opportunities to expand internal manufacturing output.
  7. Ensure adherence to financial regulations, internal policies, and accounting standards (e.g., GAAP), and prepare for and support internal and external audits.
  8. Manage and mentor the job cost accountant team, ensuring high performance, accurate reporting, and continuous professional growth.

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • In office environment
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

PLANNED BUSINESS TRAVEL 

  • This job requires no planned business travel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required. Associate or bachelor’s degree, preferred. 
  • Combined experience in accounting, finance, construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related practices of 5 or more years with education is desirable.
  • Previous experience within cost accounting, financial analysis, or cost management.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
