Java Application Architect

About you

You are someone who excels in environments that demand both deep architectural reasoning and hands-on technical expertise, guiding engineering teams through complex multi-stack ecosystems. You combine structure, clarity, and strategic vision to define scalable and maintainable application architectures while promoting modern development practices. You communicate technical decisions confidently, anticipate risks, foster collaboration across distributed teams, and create order and innovation in demanding delivery environments.

You bring to Applaudo the following competencies: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in software engineering with deep experience in Java-based architectures.
• 2+ years acting as Technical Manager, Engineering Manager, or Architect, leading teams and architectural direction.
• Experience with distributed or cross-functional teams and nearshore delivery models.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
• System migrations & modernization experience (legacy → modern environments).
• Strong understanding of software architecture, integration patterns, modernization strategies, and scalable solution design.
• Proven experience leading cross-functional engineering teams and ensuring technical alignment with business goals.
• Excellent communication skills for influencing decisions across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to structure delivery workstreams, enforce engineering standards, and improve predictability and quality.
• Ownership mentality and strong analytical mindset capable of operating effectively under pressure.
• Experience supporting modernization, refactoring, and legacy system transformation initiatives.
• Leadership through influence, mentorship, onboarding support, and promotion of ownership and autonomy across teams.

You will be accountable for the following responsibilities: 

• Provide day-to-day architectural oversight and technical guidance, ensuring coherence across engineering teams and solution decisions.
• Act as the main technical point of contact for engineering leaders and stakeholders in the U.S. and El Salvador, communicating architectural decisions with confidence and clarity.
• Collaborate closely with Service Delivery and Operations to anticipate risks and ensure business continuity.
• Introduce metrics to measure productivity, quality, and technical health, fostering data-driven improvement.
• Evaluate and propose scalable, maintainable solutions aligned with technical and business objectives.
• Review code, architecture designs, and implementation approaches to ensure performance and engineering best practices.
• Promote modern development practices—including testing strategies, automation, and disciplined version control—across legacy and modern stacks.
• Anticipate risks, identify technical debt, and lead improvement and modernization initiatives.
• Structure technical workstreams, support effort estimation, and coordinate complex deliverables for predictability and quality.
• Define and enforce standards in documentation, testing, deployment, and technical governance.
• Act as a strategic technical partner in discussions with engineering leads and client stakeholders in the U.S.
• Coach engineering teams in architectural thinking, collaboration, and shared accountability for delivery success.

• Backend: Java EE, Groovy
• Frontend: AngularJS / Angular
• Legacy: PHP
• Databases: MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL (optimization of complex queries)
• Scripting: Unix shell, cron jobs, automation scripts
• Exposure to Node.js / Express, AWS, CI/CD pipelines, Git optimization, and data migrations (Oracle → PostgreSQL).
