Job Description

We're looking for a Compliance Lead (Japan Investment) to accelerate our expansion plans in Japan. This pioneering role will be crucial in growing Wise in the region.

Your mission:

  • Manage the end-to-end process for Type 1 Financial Instruments license registration, including preparing necessary documents, internal policies, and setting up sufficient internal structure/governance.
  • Work with the global Assets product team to launch products, implement changes, and develop new features that comply with local regulations.
  • Collaborate with the banking team to understand existing and new regulations, ensuring our product and setup are compliant.
  • Build trust with regulators by managing reporting, responding to information requests, and proactively communicating product changes and notifiable events.
  • Stay informed about regulatory changes and provide input to government policy departments on the impact of proposed changes in regulation.

Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • Bilingual speaker in Japanese and English (native Japanese speaker)
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Type 1 Financial Instruments Business licence business
  • Deep understanding of Financial Instruments Business regulation and governance requirements
  • Experience in regulation, licensing or payments in a fast-paced professional environment

Good to have:

  • Experience in fund transfer service provider business
  • Ability to work independently and complete licence applications
  • Strong analytical skills with understanding of financial and securities regulations
  • Willingness to travel to global offices as needed
