General Summary

The ideal candidate should be technically proficient and have a customer service mindset with a focus on security. This position will involve handling multiple workloads across different technologies, so flexibility and adaptability will be crucial for success. You must be able to collaborate with multiple departments and prioritize tasks based on need and functionality.

As an IT Systems Administrator, your role will involve reporting to the Director of IT and closely collaborating with both the Applications and Hardware & Infrastructure teams at GTI Energy. Your skill set will not only complement the existing skills of these teams but also contribute to enhancing the current expertise. Your work will primarily be in a highly virtualized Microsoft environment, making use of Active Directory, Azure, cloud services, Microsoft/Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Intune, NetApp SAN, NAS storage devices, and backup solutions. In this position, you will leverage your knowledge and expertise to support various existing systems and develop and execute IT processes and projects that will enhance and expand business systems. You will play a role in the incident support process and actively participate in investigations to resolve complex incidents. Your involvement will be key in the IT change management process.

Work Location

The position will be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. We offer a hybrid/core work week, where employees are remote Mondays and Fridays, and required to be on-site Tuesday through Thursday.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Proactively maintain GTI Energy systems, including but not limited to:
    • Monitor and manage system capacities and address resource constraints before they become serious problems
    • Identify and deliver on other areas of regular proactive maintenance that minimizes unexpected downtime and increases system availability and performance
  • Participate in the administration of and the resolution of support tickets that pertain to hardware, software, cloud, and infrastructure
  • Create/maintain system, process, and end-user instructions/documentation
  • Provide Level- 2/3 help desk support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Participate in disaster recovery failovers for business applications and associated systems
  • Assist in building processes, procedures, and document configurations for network and other processes
  • Make recommendations for improving IT systems and processes
  • Participate in projects, including those driven by IT and those driven by other business departments
  • Adhere to GTI Energy's core values while providing competent, proactive support to the company's server and storage environments and delivering IT solutions
  • Configure, maintain and manage PCs, Servers, VMs, Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Backups, Hardware, and Maintenance of IT systems as needed.
  • Install and configure software and hardware
  • Manage business systems and technology tools
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements and ensure system availability and reliability
  • Ensure security through access controls, policies, and procedures
  • Troubleshoot issues and outages
  • Upgrade systems with new releases and models
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Overall minimum 7 years of proven experience as a System, Network, Azure, Cloud, Security, and/or SharePoint Administrator, or similar role
  • Understand the interconnectivity of Azure AD, On-Premises AD, Security, Group Policy, Azure Networking, On-Premises Networking, Microsoft/Office 365, firewalls, and/or trusts
  • Have a solid working proficiency in 3 or more of the previously mentioned areas
  • Experience with hardware (switches, routers, and firewalls)
  • Experience with administering virtualized environments (on-premises and cloud)
  • Knowledge of storage technologies and methodologies (physical and virtual)
  • Knowledge of network and systems troubleshooting methods
  • Ability to process information logically to reach a solution
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Works well both alone and in a team setting
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology related field; 7+ years in related experience and/or training or: equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 5+years of relevant, professional level work experience after an M.S
  • 7+ years of proven experience as a System, Network, Azure, Cloud, Security, and/or SharePoint Administrator, or similar role preferred.
  • Experience in PowerBI, PowerApps, Cognos, and/or Web Services is a strong plus
  • Experience in SharePoint Online is a plus
  • Experience in database administration, Java code, and/or SQL scripts is a plus
