Software Development Engineer

The Day to Day (Responsibilities):
- Gather and write requirements for application or process enhancements.
- Collaborate with analysts, programmers, system architects and database administrators in conceptualizing and development of new software programs and applications.
- Liaise with network administrators, business analysts, and other IT specialists to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems.
- Analyze and assess existing business systems and procedures.
- Write software programs and develop applications according to specifications.
- Write programming scripts to enhance functionality and/or performance of company applications as necessary.
- Design, run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.
- Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.
- Fix bugs and respond to support tickets.
- Develop and maintain user manuals and guidelines.
- Conduct research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Work with data and leverage it to find insights, identify trends, and make recommendations.
- Coordinate with IT management to collect data for metrics reporting.
- Conduct data analysis for various business initiatives.
- Present findings to stakeholders in a concise and effective manner
Education, experience, and skills:
The ideal candidate will be an analytical, disciplined, and creative problem solver committed to delivering a quality product and be able to demonstrate:
- Bachelor's Degree with 4 years of related experience; or Master's Degree with 2 years of related experience.
- Accuracy and precision.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to learn software and explain it to others.
- Strong Java development skills (Spring, Struts, etc.) and design patterns, as well as experience with JSP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, SQL, and Web Services (REST / SOAP).
- ETL work with tools such as SSIS and Boomi.
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 35 pounds. This position also requires 4 to 6 hours per day at a computer screen/keyboard.
