Position Overview
The Department of Energy (DOE), Naval Reactors Headquarters, is seeking a highly skilled IT Project Engineer to support the design, implementation, integration, and sustainment of secure enterprise IT systems. This role is responsible for ensuring system reliability, data accuracy, security compliance, and interoperability across mission-critical IT environments.
The IT Project Engineer will apply advanced technical expertise to analyze, plan, and implement integrated IT solutions while maintaining strict compliance with federal security and regulatory standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesIT Systems Design & ImplementationDesign, configure, install, and maintain enterprise IT systems in accordance with organizational and federal standards.
Ensure system data accuracy, integrity, and protection of sensitive information.
Implement security controls and compliance measures aligned with DOE and federal regulatory requirements.
Support system lifecycle activities including upgrades, patch management, and enhancements.
Analyze technical requirements and develop implementation strategies for integrated IT solutions.
Plan and execute system integration initiatives to ensure seamless interoperability across platforms and environments.
Support configuration management processes to maintain system consistency and version control.
Contribute to quality assurance efforts to ensure system reliability and performance standards are met.
Assist in resource planning and allocation to support project timelines and operational needs.
Evaluate IT solutions to ensure performance, scalability, and compatibility with enterprise architecture.
Troubleshoot system issues to resolve interoperability, performance, and security challenges.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and policy documentation.
Ensure documentation supports traceability, system accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
Maintain compliance with federal cybersecurity frameworks, configuration control processes, and data protection policies.
Support audits, assessments, and compliance reviews as required.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of experience in IT systems engineering or project engineering roles.
Experience designing, configuring, and maintaining enterprise IT systems.
Strong understanding of:
Systems integration
Configuration management
Quality assurance processes
IT security and regulatory compliance
Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills in complex IT environments.
Experience developing technical documentation and system policies.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Active DOE Q or DoD Top Secret clearance (or ability to obtain).
Experience in a federal or highly regulated environment.
Familiarity with NIST, RMF, or other federal cybersecurity frameworks.
Experience with enterprise infrastructure, servers, networking, and virtualization technologies.
Relevant technical certifications (e.g., Security+, ITIL, Microsoft, Cisco).
