The IT Patch Administrator plays a critical role in maintaining the security and stability of an organization's IT infrastructure by managing and deploying software patches and updates across various systems. This position ensures that all systems are up-to-date with the latest security patches to protect against vulnerabilities and minimize downtime. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain patch management policies and procedures to ensure timely and effective deployment of software updates.
  • Coordinate with system administrators, network engineers, and security teams to schedule and deploy patches across servers, workstations, and network devices.
  • Test patches in a controlled environment to assess compatibility and potential impact before full deployment.
  • Monitor patch deployment status and troubleshoot any issues that arise during or after patch application.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of patch management activities, including schedules, deployment results, and compliance reports.
  • Stay current with emerging vulnerabilities, patch releases, and industry best practices to continuously improve patch management processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


 Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience in patch management or systems administration within a medium to large IT environment.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, or similar.
  • Experience with automation and scripting languages like PowerShell, Bash, or Python to streamline patch deployment.
  • Experience working in regulated industries with compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, PCI-DSS).


 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with IT service management frameworks such as ITIL.
  • Familiarity with patch management tools such as Microsoft WSUS, SCCM, N-Central or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of operating systems including Windows, Linux, and macOS.
  • Knowledge of network protocols, security principles, and vulnerability management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Provide training and support to IT staff on patch management tools and procedures.
  • The IT Patch Admin uses technical skills daily to evaluate and deploy patches efficiently
  • Ensuring systems remain secure and operational.
  • Proficiency with patch management tools enables the administrator to automate and monitor patch deployments, reducing manual effort and errors.
  • Knowledge of operating systems and network security principles is essential for assessing patch impact and mitigating risks.
  • Communication skills are used to collaborate with cross-functional teams and report on patch status to management.

:

  • Office setting with a moderate noise level.
  • The employee will work at an individual workstation, using a telephone and computer.


 Physical Demands
:

  • Must be able to remain seated for extended periods.

  • Occasional movement around the office.
  • Frequent communication via telephone.
