ALSO is looking for an Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel to execute on our global IP strategy,
working closely with our engineering, design, and other cross-functional teams to protect and
grow our innovative portfolio. This role is ideal for a skilled and proactive attorney with deep
experience in intellectual property who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments and is
excited to help build a world-class IP program from the ground up.

What You Will Do

• Develop and execute Also’s global IP strategy across patents, trademarks, copyrights,
  and trade secrets.

• Partner with product, engineering, and design teams to identify and protect key
  innovations in small EV design, software, and manufacturing.

• Manage the preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent and trademark applications,
  leveraging external counsel where appropriate.

• Conduct freedom-to-operate, prior art, and clearance analyses to support product
  development and commercialization.

• Oversee IP due diligence for strategic partnerships, licensing deals, and other business
  transactions.

• Create and implement internal processes to identify and capture new inventions across
  the company.

• Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on IP matters, including risk
  assessment and enforcement strategy.

• Educate and train internal teams on IP best practices, protection mechanisms, and the
  importance of innovation capture.

• Support global brand protection, including domain management and enforcement
  against infringement or counterfeiting.

• Champion a culture of continuous improvement, automation, and operational excellence
  within the function.

What You Will Bring

• J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school and active member in good standing of
  the California Bar (or eligible to practice as a California registered in-house counsel).

• 5+ years of experience practicing intellectual property law, preferably including both in-
  house and law firm experience.

• Technical degree in engineering, physics, or related field preferred (mechanical,
  electrical, or software background a plus).

• Strong experience with patent prosecution, portfolio management, and IP strategy in the
  technology, automotive, or micromobility sectors.

• Deep understanding of IP issues related to design, software, and emerging
  technologies.

• Experience managing outside counsel and coordinating global IP protection strategies.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and explain
  complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.

• A hands-on, self-starter mentality with the ability to operate independently, identify
  opportunities, and drive initiatives forward with minimal direction.

The salary for this position ranges from $225,000 - $330,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
