The Opportunity
InCharge Energy is seeking an IoT Network Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team in Richmond, VA. This role is key to ensuring the security, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of our EVSE connectivity solutions. You will be responsible for designing, testing, implementing, and maintaining connectivity strategies—including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and 4G—that can be deployed by third-party providers and supported by InCharge’s Service Team (NOC and Field Service). This position requires strong documentation skills, equipment evaluation, and technical troubleshooting to drive scalable deployment and ensure operational success.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure InCharge has flexibility in terms of its EVSE connectivity solutions
- Create clear documentation and manuals to support field technicians and internal employees
- Document software defects and report them to developers based on findings from regression and smoke testing
- Investigate field-reported issues by replicating conditions in a lab environment to identify root causes and recommend resolutions
- Select and evaluate equipment and applications that support connectivity across various site conditions
- Support deployment and maintenance by creating work instructions and guidance for third-party providers
- Ensure compliance with data protection laws and applicable industry standards
- Stay up to date on networking best practices and evolving technologies to offer the most effective and secure solutions
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to address network connectivity challenges and deliver scalable solutions
Your Experience & Capabilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field—or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in a Network Engineering role, with a proven ability to manage and execute IT projects
- Strong technical knowledge across networking, systems administration, cybersecurity, and cloud infrastructure
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to diagnosing and resolving technical issues
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to support cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to create technical documentation and simplify complex processes for broader understanding
- Strategic thinker with a proactive mindset for process improvement
- CompTIA Network+ or similar certification (preferred)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work performed in office, warehouse, and interoperability lab environments
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs as needed
- Occasional travel may be required to support deployment, field testing, or issue replication
