POSITION SUMMARY:

Join our mission-driven team as an Investments Associate and you have an instrumental role in managing our $4.6 billion endowment. In this role, you will participate in formulating the investment strategy, underwriting, and investing in new opportunities, and managing the investment portfolio. The position provides opportunities to have material impact on the Foundation’s actively managed portfolio as well as mentorship from a small, collaborative, and experienced investment team. This is a hybrid role based in Bethesda, MD, and requires 2-3 days per week in the Bethesda office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sourcing new opportunities and investments across the globe and all asset classes (public markets, private markets, and opportunistic).

  • Investment due diligence, selection, and monitoring of investments, including fund managers, co-investments, and direct investments.

  • Preparing and presenting investment analyses and recommendations to internal team and Investment Committee of the Board.

  • Improving the investment process, including work on investment operations, performance management and risk management.

  • ~30% travel.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 3 years of investment work-related experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation beneficial.

  • Experience building a sourcing network for new investment opportunities preferred.

  • Preference prior experience conducting investment due diligence on direct investments, co-investments, and investment funds.

  • Ability to synthesize information from various sources and critically evaluate alternative approaches.

  • Ability to prepare well-written, well-organized material and present recommendations in a clear and concise manner.

  • Capacity to conduct thorough investment analysis, including appropriate modeling and identifying merits and risks of investment opportunities.

  • Able to consider future scenarios, opportunities, and risks by thoroughly evaluating variables and assessing impact on the investment portfolio.

  • Capacity to fully understand a problem and offer potential solutions.

  • Capable of integrating complex information and concepts and synthesizing efforts into a systematic framework.

  • Ability to take courageous, decisive action and make timely and independent decisions that are in the best interests of the organization.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Managing Director, Investments. No direct reports.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature.

  • No heavy lifting required.

  • Travel to conferences and meetings, as necessary.

The salary range is $137,500.00 to $171,900.00. Specific salary varies based on geographic location and is commensurate with experience.
