About the job
The Engineering team is looking for a highly motivated individual who wants to gain practical experience with open source and Red Hat products during a summer internship to join us as a Software Engineer Research Intern. What you will do

  • Work on Fedora OS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) OS
  • Interact with the entire Engineering team
  • Interact with Product Management and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams
  • Work with the CTO office as needed to improve OS software
  • Support customers, students, and researchers
  • Help develop tools and software to address issues and enhancement requests
  • Work to improve the overall quality and functionality of the operating system software


What you will bring

  • Ability to work full time Jan-June or July-Dec; may be remote or in-person in the Westford or Boston, MA office
  • Knowledge of UNIX and Linux operating system in any distribution
  • Coding experience with C or Python
  • Good written and verbal communication skills


The following will be considered a plus:

  • Previous code contributions to open source projects or code samples on GitHub
  • Ansible
  • Kubernetes experience
  • Experience with JavaScript, Bash scripting, Rust
  • Participation in other open source projects and communities
