Company Description

Ozone is a team of DevSecOps engineers offering automated security tools as part of our standard approach. Our tools help KPN DevOps teams keep their developer environments stable and secure. During your internship, you work with experienced engineers who guide and support you. You have regular check-ins to discuss progress and ideas. We encourage you to share insights and challenge current methods. We value a safe, open environment where learning through questions and mistakes drives success.

Job Description

As a DevSecOps intern, you will work on a real and impactful security challenge within our cloud-native platform.

We run business-critical workloads on AWS and Kubernetes. While preventive security controls are in place, we are looking to improve our visibility into what actually happens inside running containers and cloud workloads. Think of detecting unusual behavior such as privilege escalation, credential misuse, or unexpected network activity.

During your internship, you will investigate how we can strengthen our runtime security and monitoring capabilities. You will combine research, analysis, and hands-on work to design and validate a solution. This means your work will directly help us better detect and respond to real-world security threats.

Your activities include:

  • Understanding the current situation: assess our AWS and Kubernetes setup to find gaps in monitoring, logging, and security.
  • Researching possible solutions: review and compare open-source, commercial, and AWS-native tools, then share clear recommendations.
  • Designing an improved future setup: set clear runtime monitoring rules, detail data collection and response steps, and ensure seamless integration with current tools and processes.
  • Building a Proof of Concept: test the chosen solution in a controlled setting, show it detects security events, and document the setup, configuration, and results.
  • Creating an implementation approach: roll out the solution by listing prerequisites, estimating effort, and highlighting risks.

You are not expected to know everything upfront. We value your curiosity, learning mindset, and ability to explore new technologies.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a curious mindset, analytical thinking attitude, and who is eager to learn more about cloud and security. In addition, you recognize yourself in the following:

  • You are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in: IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or a related field.
  • You speak and write English, and optionally Dutch.
  • You enjoy working collaboratively, but can also work independently and take responsibility.
  • You bring basic knowledge of Linux and networking, basic scripting skills (Python), Docker and you’re willing to learn more about Kubernetes
  • You are available for at least five months and you are available to work four to five days per week.
  • You reside in the Netherlands.

Additional Information

We offer you an internship where you can truly make an impact while developing yourself both technically and professionally.

  • A monthly internship allowance of €600 based on full-time participation
  • Opportunities to engage in activities and collaborate with fellow interns and colleagues
  • The potential for employment at KPN upon successful completion of the internship
  • A hybrid working environment: 2 days in the office, 3 days remote
  • A laptop for both internship and academic use
  • Travel reimbursement for train or car if you do not have a student public transport card
  • Collaboration within a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals
  • Access to an extensive network of experts at KPN who are eager to share their knowledge and connections

We have a strong belief in the power of technology made even more impactful through human interaction. We look forward to meeting you!
