Assignment duration: 5 - 6 months
Location: Veghel
Education level: Bachelor / Master
Desired study: IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science, AI or related
Language: Dutch / English
Engineers at Vanderlande use CAD tools every day. This is often a complex task and getting help with designing can be quite challenging. When questions arise (about commands, workflows, or unexpected behavior) support is often outside the tool itself. In this internship you will explore the exciting intersection of AI technology and CAD-tooling. You will investigate how AI can be an in-tool assistant, helping users exactly when and where they need it.
Throughout the intership, you will investigate suitable AI models, experiment with interaction methods, and collaborate with stakeholders to understand real user needs. The assignment culminates in building a functional proof-of-concept that demonstrates how AI van enhances user experience and productivity for engineering proferssionals. This project is deal for someone eager to to combine technical skills with creativity and user‑centric thinking.
Within Vanderlande’s ICT organization, the Applications Engineering department develops and maintains a wide range of software tools that support the engineering process of advanced conveyor and sorting systems used in airports, warehouses, and distribution centers.
The department is divided into two teams. Team A focuses on developing and supporting various engineering tools, including design applications such as the System Designer of the Engineering Suite of Tools (ESoT), as well as tools for PLC software generation and system emulation and testing. Team B is fully dedicated to the Engineering Suite of Tools (ESoT) and is responsible for the underlying applications and server systems that support the end-to-end engineering workflow from sales to delivery.
ESoT is a plugin for AutoCAD and Revit that enables engineers to design conveyor systems in a structured and efficient way. These designs are directly used for manufacturing and implementation in real-world logistics systems.
As an intern, you will join Team A and work independently on your own project, supported by two supervisors and the wider team. Team A consists of nine members: seven developers, one Product Owner, and one Scrum Master. The team works in an agile environment and values collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
