Department OverviewThe International Upgrade Operations (UO) team sits within the Software & Services business. The UO team is responsible for deploying software upgrades across the MSI mission critical customer base in order to keep customer systems on current levels of shipping software.
Job Description
Opportunity to join the International UO team as an EMEA Upgrade Engineer (UE). The UE is responsible for planning and deploying Dimetra software releases across varying customer system topologies. The role requires an in-depth knowledge of Dimetra infrastructure and the tooling & procedures used to deploy software upgrades.
The Upgrade Engineer:
will develop an optimal upgrade implementation plan aligned to the customer system configuration.
will share the technical aspects and impact timeline migration strategy with the customer and keep them aware of any changes required.
will apply the software to the system using the ESU tool whilst being aware of and minimising the risk of service disruption to the operational mission critical system.
will work with Dimetra support teams to resolve issues that arise, tracking each case through to a workable customer solution. This includes taking a leading role in communicating upgrade progress and incident resolution plans via discussions, formal reviews & written reports.
will form part of a small cross functional team including a project coordinator, CSM, SE, and FE staff for each upgrade.
will be required to travel to the customer location and work night shifts where required to minimise the outage impact to service operation.
will continuously apply a lessons learned methodology to find ways to improve quality and efficiency.
Basic Requirements
Must have an in-depth knowledge of Dimetra architecture, software releases, the ESU tool and TNDM - and be willing to go through the TNDM certification process.
A knowledge of IP networking, Windows and Linux operating systems
Must be self motivated and able to self manage.
Fluent English (spoken and written)
German language skills desirable.
Able to work in a continuously changing environment with an ability to continuously learn.
Able to work in a small team environment and be an effective communicator across technical and non-technical disciplines within Motorola and customer organisations.
Must be able to travel across the EMEA territory, typically spending a 2 week period at a customer location during the software migration phase of a project which may include working night shifts.
Ability to develop effective implementation strategies, consistent with business needs and reduced levels of technical risk ensuring adherence to relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices
Product-specific knowledge of Wave, IMW and MCC7500 products including certified voice logging solutions is an advantage.
Successful applicants will be required to gain security clearance in the respective country / or on the customer systems they are assigned to.
