  • Fluency in target language (written, spoken) and deep knowledge of the target area, plus the ability to adapt stories into English as assigned, within the time assigned

USAGM networks include the Voice of America and the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (Radio and TV Marti) and three grantee organizations: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa), and Radio Free Asia.

This is not an announcement for a federal job. This position is for employment as a personal services contractor with VOA News and may include eligibility for health, dental, vision, and life insurance, overtime, paid time off, sick leave, and the possibility of performance-based bonuses. All personal service contractors must pass a thorough background check.

Consistent with all applicable law and regulation, USAGM will only hire U.S. citizens for personal services contracts.

Skills Required

  • Team leadership: assign work, coach team members, report on performance

  • Adapt and translate content between English and Mandarin (both directions)
  • Fluency in Mandarin (written and spoken) and deep knowledge of target area
  • Voice material for broadcasts and contribute to production elements, including fine editing of taped material
  • Perform technical functions and operate broadcast equipment; serve as videographer/reporter/anchor as assigned
  • Log and conduct data entry and other functions in VOA's digital asset management system
  • U.S. citizenship (USAGM will only hire U.S. citizens) and pass a thorough background check
  • Specialized knowledge including formal education in a relevant field desired by VOA
