About the team
Mastercard's Security Engineering teams help protect the technology, systems, applications, and data that power one of the world's leading payment networks. Our teams design, implement, and continuously improve security solutions across areas such as cloud security, application security, identity and access management, threat detection, security automation, and infrastructure security.
Working alongside experienced security professionals, you'll gain exposure to how cybersecurity operates at global scale and how engineering principles are applied to identify risks, strengthen defenses, and build secure and resilient technology.
What you'll do
As a Security Engineering Intern, you'll build foundational cybersecurity and engineering skills, contribute to real-world security projects, and gain experience working with technology used at a global scale. You'll collaborate with experienced security engineers and technology teams to help protect Mastercard's systems, applications, and data. You may:
* Be part of a real security engineering team contributing to live security initiatives and solutions.
* Support the design, implementation, and enhancement of security controls and solutions.
* Help identify, investigate, and remediate security vulnerabilities and risks.
* Contribute to security automation and scripting using languages such as Python or similar.
* Assist with monitoring, analyzing, and responding to security events and potential threats.
* Support cloud, application, infrastructure, or network security initiatives.
* Learn and apply secure engineering and security-by-design principles.
* Assist with security testing, vulnerability assessments, and technical investigations.
* Work with tools and technologies used to protect enterprise systems and environments.
* Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, team meetings, and agile ceremonies.
* Collaborate with security engineers, software engineers, architects, and other technology teams to deliver secure solutions.
* Troubleshoot technical issues and support continuous improvements to security processes and solutions.
* Gain exposure to how cybersecurity is designed and maintained within a large global technology organization.

What we're looking for
* Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, graduating in summer 2028.
* Full-time availability for a 6-month internship starting in February 2027.
* Basic understanding of programming or scripting languages such as Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, or similar.
* Strong foundation in core computer science, networking, operating systems, or cybersecurity concepts.
* Familiarity with version control tools such as Git.
* Interest in cybersecurity, security engineering, cloud security, application security, or related areas.
* Interest in problem solving, troubleshooting, and investigating technical issues.
* Curiosity, motivation, and a willingness to learn.
* Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
