Data Science Internship

About the Role
Hitachi Vantara Federal is seeking a Data Science Intern to support corporate projects focused on Machine Learning (ML) and DataOps technologies. This hands-on role will involve working with the Pentaho Plus DataOps Platform to build compelling use cases that demonstrate the platform’s capabilities—including integrations with Deep Learning, ChatGPT, Hugging Face, and more—as time allows.
The ideal candidate is passionate about data science and public sector technology, eager to learn, and excited to contribute to a purpose-driven organization improving our nation’s data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities | Daily Activities:
• Learn the core components of the Pentaho Plus DataOps Platform
• Identify and define ML-focused use cases for structured/unstructured data
• Source open datasets for training and testing
• Build and evaluate ML models
• Document demo scripts and decision rationale using storytelling techniques
Potential Projects:
• ML Model Exploration & Deployment: End-to-end demo showcasing Hitachi’s analytics capabilities
• MLOps Pipeline Demo: Build and document a pipeline, highlighting real-world deployment challenges
• Data Catalog Integration: (Optional) Incorporate data cataloging for operational ML use cases
What You Bring:
• US Citizenship (required)
• Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Data Science, or related fields
• Rising juniors or seniors
• Excellent communication skills
• Problem-solving mindset and strong attention to detail
• Curiosity and creativity in learning
