Prairie State Generating Company is looking for college students who are interested in a summer intern program in the power generation industry. A limited number of internships are available for college students enrolled in specific curriculum. Participating as an intern will provide experience and exposure to state-of-the-art technology in an operating power plant. Student interns will receive industry experience, hands-on training, paid intern program and exposure to industry professionals.
ResponsibilitiesEssential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned):
- Working on Plant Operations, Maintenance and /or Engineering projects which include optimization and improvement projects.
- Working on Plant Control Systems (PLCs and DCS) with oversight from system engineers.
- Working on Plant Power Systems (High Voltage, Medium Voltage, and Low Voltage) with oversight from system engineers.
- Work on Data Collection and Interpretation to improve System Functionality and Efficiency.
- Develop an understanding of electrical schematics, one-lines, connection drawings, and P&IDs.
- Develop a presentation describing your work to Plant Management to be presented at the end of your internship.
- Regular and reliable attendance required.

Education/Experience
- To be considered, an individual MUST be enrolled in a college program and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Must be in good academic standing.
- MUST be available for a 12-13 week program beginning in Mid/Late-May to Early/Mid-August.

Knowledge of
- Safety and health hazards associated with each job assignment.
- Basic understanding of control systems is desired.
- Basic understanding of power systems is desired.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors and others.

- Ability to enter confined spaces, climb ladders and wear respirators as needed.
- Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds.
- Proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
At Prairie State, the base pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this role is $25.00 per hour for the Undergraduate level and $28.00 per hour for the Graduate level.
