Job Description:
To support our Technology Department in the Advanced Materials division, we are looking for an Intern in Data Science. The position is a 6-month internship, and it is based in our Advanced Materials Innovation Center in Basel (Switzerland). The objective of this internship is to support digital transformation within the Technology department of Huntsman Advanced Materials. The intern will work within a multidisciplinary team and will contribute to the multiple knowledge management projects.
Your main accountabilities as Data Science Intern will be:
- Compile and analyze experimental data from archived projects to be utilized in data science initiatives using our ELN software and scripts.
- Build, maintain, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines that acquire, ingest, and process data from multiple sources into the enterprise Generative AI Platform.
- Develop, prototype and test LLM-based architecture and agentic systems processing large-scale structured and unstructured datasets.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to translate domain-specific problems into computational solutions (e.g. retrieval, ranking, reasoning etc.) in the field of chemistry and material science.
- Assist in the automation of manual processes & dashboards.
- Participate in code reviews and agile development cycles.
- Document data processing scripts, data workflows and generate technical reports.
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree or enrolled in a Master Program in computer science, applied mathematics, engineering or statistics.
- Strong programming skills in Python; JavaScript is a plus.
- Familiar with LLMs, vector databases and prompt engineering concepts.
- Familiar with cloud service platforms (e.g., Azure).
- Basic knowledge of web development frameworks and SQL.
- Basic knowledge of machine learning is a plus.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Passion to learn and a collaborative mindset
- Fluent in English
