Intern – Windows Cloud & Systems Engineer (Summer)

Must be an active student

Location: Brno, Czech Republic

Schedule: Full-time, 12-week fixed-term contract (1 July – 30 September)

How We Work

Our hybrid work model (3 days in the office) gives us the face-to-face time to have creative conversations, meaningful meetings, make quick decisions and build relationships. At the same time, it offers flexibility you need to focus and do your best work.

Mission and Goals

Our goal is to provide platforms for the engineering teams enabling them to deploy, monitor and operate their software as independently as possible. We use Microsoft, VMware, and Cloud technologies to provide the IT infrastructure and functionality we need.
The infrastructure we manage consists of several hundreds of servers and VMs located in both data centers and cloud regions around the world in different Active Directory domains. This helps to support backend applications providing services to more than 500 million client applications/devices.
This would not be possible without automation and an Infrastructure-as-Code mindset. Our main tools for this purpose are PowerShell, SCCM, PowerCLI, and Terraform, and we try to use them wherever feasible.
The size of the infrastructure and the number of client devices bring many interesting challenges and issues, starting with collecting business and technical requirements for new projects and ending with tuning OS and seeking potential improvements in automation processes.

Objectives

• Shadow team members on daily systems engineering tasks
• Assist in writing or updating scripts and configuration (mainly PowerShell, with exposure to Terraform, PowerCLI)
• Participate in requirement gathering and OS tuning projects
• Contribute to automation and optimization efforts for virtual and cloud infrastructure
• Learn how to operate and manage Windows and cloud-based systems at scale
• Support engineering teams in deploying and operating services reliably
• Automate infrastructure wherever possible
• Grow your technical and collaboration skills through hands-on experience

Competencies

• Good working experience with Windows and VMware technology
• Cloud experience (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• PowerShell scripting
• Desire to learn new technologies and solve technical challenges
• Positive working attitude, teamwork spirit, and communication skills
• English written and spoken
• General IT infrastructure knowledge (TCP/IP, networking, storage, MSSQL)
• Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Windows & VMware server platform administration
• Experience with automation of virtual and cloud infrastructure (VMware, Hyper-V, GCP, AWS, Azure)
