Alpha Alternatives sits within PSP’s Global Alpha group and invests in hedge fund strategies with external managers and via direct and co-investment partnerships within the Integrated Strategies team. The Alpha Alternatives team seeks to provide complementary alpha strategies that are less correlated to the Total Fund over the long term.
ABOUT YOUR ROLEAs an Intern, Alpha Alternatives, you’ll:
Provide overall support to the team to enable efficient decision-making and execution of transactions
Financial modelling and risk analyses on various investments across the capital structure, including understanding the impact of various hedging strategies
Proactively engaging in fundamental research as it relates to existing and new positions
Assisting the team with special projects and performing portfolio analytics
Enrolled in a Bachelor or Master program, ideally with a concentration in Finance and/or a quantitative field (financial engineering, statistics, economics etc.)
Effective communications skills, both written and spoken
Ability to navigate a fast-pace environment with a high level of autonomy
Attention to detail and rigorous approach to research, analysis and documentation
Demonstrated initiative and curiosity to look beyond surface facts and conduct comprehensive, fact-based, value-added research
Eagerness to learn, ideate and innovate
High level of proficiency with MS Office and programming experience (Python, R, etc.)
Experience in financial modeling and financial analysis (knowledge of Bloomberg and other investment software), an asset
Pursuing a CFA designation, an asset
Must return to studies after the internship or the internship must be part of your curriculum
Good communications skills in English and French (or willingness to learn) (Regular interactions in English with investment partners based outside of Quebec Example: peers, bankers, brokerage firms, etc. and PSP employees in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa)
