The AI & Automation Engineering Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting Aprio’s Automation Information Technology team. Interns will assist with the design, development, testing, and support of automation and artificial intelligence solutions that improve and streamline business processes across the firm.
The intern will work closely with Automation Developers, AI Engineers, and business stakeholders to develop an understanding of how automation and AI solutions are designed, built, and deployed in a professional services environment. This role provides exposure to modern software development practices, cloud platforms, AI/ML tools, and agile methodologies while contributing to real-world projects with measurable impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, development, and testing of automation solutions using C#/.NET, Python, Blazor, React, Django, and/or Next.js
- Support the development and integration of REST APIs and microservices to connect automation solutions with existing business systems
- Contribute to front-end and back-end development tasks under the guidance of senior developers
- Help monitor and troubleshoot implemented automation solutions to ensure optimal performance
- Assist in building, testing, and evaluating AI/ML models using Azure ML, Azure Cognitive Services, and Python-based frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
- Support the development of data pipelines and integration points between AI solutions and business systems
- Contribute to Proof of Concept (POC) efforts for innovative AI solutions, including generative AI and retrieval-augmented generation approaches
- Help maintain documentation for AI models, data pipelines, and system architecture
- Participate in agile/scrum ceremonies, including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
- Collaborate with business analysts, process owners, and subject matter experts to understand automation use cases and requirements
- Communicate progress, findings, and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members
- Actively seek feedback, ask questions, and demonstrate a continuous learning and growth mindset
- Explore emerging technologies and tools in AI, automation, and software development
- Assist in evaluating new frameworks, libraries, or platforms that could enhance the team’s capabilities
- Contribute ideas and insights toward improving existing processes and solutions

Candidate Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
- Currently enrolled in upper-level undergraduate or graduate coursework
- Foundational knowledge or coursework in one or more programming languages such as Python, C#/.NET, SQL, or JavaScript/TypeScript
- Interest in automation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or software engineering
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, professional services environment
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
