Intermediate Accountant | Remote work set-up

This is an opportunity to join Software Combined Group's regional finance team in a hands-on role with real ownership. As an Intermediate Accountant, you will run the month-end close for assigned subsidiaries with minimal supervision, prepare management reporting and variance commentary, contribute to budgeting and forecasting, and support compliance obligations across the Group.

This is a generalist role that goes well beyond transactional accounting. You will work with a high degree of independence, with the Senior Accountant providing oversight on judgement areas and escalated matters. The role offers direct exposure to a complex, multi-entity group structure, with scope to contribute to process improvement, system enhancements, and post-acquisition integration as the Group continues to grow.

Your tasks for the day include, but are not limited to the following:

Financial control and budget preparation for head office and portfolio companies

  • Run the end-to-end month-end close for assigned subsidiaries with minimal supervision, including journals, trial balance review, reconciliations, and management reporting with variance commentary
  • Prepare budget and forecast models for assigned subsidiaries as part of the annual budget and periodic forecast process led by the Senior Accountant
  • Prepare complex and judgement-based workpapers, escalating material issues and unusual transactions to the Senior Accountant with a proposed treatment
  • Prepare month-end journals and manage payment processes where required
  • Prepare month-end reconciliations including fixed assets, deferred revenue, leases, and employee liabilities
  • Prepare Head Office reporting pack inputs and templates for assigned subsidiaries
  • Assist with the collation and consolidation of accounts and budgets

Reporting and compliance obligations

  • Prepare VAT/GST, FBT and payroll lodgements
  • Assist with the completion of full-year Statutory Financial Statements for audit
  • Assist with the preparation of tax reporting schedules for tax filing

Projects and ad hoc activities

  • Assist in rolling out of any head office finance initiatives e.g. standardisation of reporting templates, implementation of new accounting standards
  • Support system implementations and post-acquisition financial integration for new portfolio companies including chart of account mapping, opening balances, and first-month close
  • Identify and support process improvements, automation opportunities, and system enhancements across assigned subsidiaries, escalate and report system related issues and errors
  • Liaise with other members of the finance team and assist with ad hoc duties

In a nutshell, you have won the day when your subsidiaries are closed accurately and on time, your work needs minimal review, and the team knows it can rely on your numbers!

As an Intermediate Accountant, you can perform well if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (Business or equivalent, with an accounting major)
  • CPA/CA Professional accreditation required
  • 3-5 years of accounting/bookkeeping/audit experience, including running month-end close
  • Sound working knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS/AASB) and their practical application (Revenue from Contracts with Customers; Leases; Employee Benefits)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, in particular advanced Excel and strong computer skills
  • Experienced in using Xero, MYOB Advanced, and NetSuite (preferred)
  • Previous experience in SaaS companies desirable but not essential
  • Previous experience of consolidations of multi-jurisdiction groups also desirable but not essential
  • Proven ability to run month-end close independently across multiple entities and meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and task accuracy
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills
  • Confident team player who can also work independently
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
