We are looking for an Interim Legal Counsel to join our legal team in our brand-new office in Central London!

We have a flexible hybrid working arrangement and generally work from the office two days a week. For the right candidate, we are happy to discuss a hybrid arrangement that suits you best.

Working with the Flutter International legal team, and reporting into the Head of Commercial, this position will provide legal support, and have responsibility for, a wide variety of commercial legal matters relating to Flutter International; primarily the PokerNews brand but also the PokerStars and Betfair International brands.

  • PokerNews is the industry leading poker information site and affiliate business, with a focus on live tournament coverage, poker strategy and poker content.
  • PokerStars is the largest poker site in the world, with more than 225 billion hands dealt and more than 1.85 billion tournaments hosted. PokerStars is proud to be home to the largest selections of online games, as well as own and run the most prestigious online series and live tournaments in the world, including the World Championship of Online Poker (“WCOOP”), the Spring Championship of Online Poker (“SCOOP”), the European Poker Tour (“EPT”) and the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (“PCA”).
  • Betfair International is one of the largest international online sports betting operators and the world’s biggest betting exchange. Betfair has a significant presence in the UK and Ireland as part of Flutter’s UK&I division, but also operate within many international territories as part of Flutter International, including Brazil.

You will work directly with PokerNews internal business personnel (and, as required, other Flutter International personnel) to draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including, but not limited, to online media and advertising agreements, affiliate agreements, services agreements and website terms and conditions, as well as get involved in some regulatory work. The position is a fixed term maternity cover for 1 year.

Working independently and under the guidance and direction from senior members of the team, you will:

  • Provide first class legal advice on commercial and contractual issues
  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and documents
  • Review and update website terms and conditions for various brands and territories and liaise with internal stakeholders/departments to facilitate the review and update of other website documents by those departments.
  • Facilitate through to completion all stages of commercial agreements
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal business personnel
  • Work closely with product and finance teams to provide legal direction and advice, appropriately balancing risk and reward of projects
  • Be a team player with a flexible attitude
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
  • Contribute to the review and improvement of processes and precedents on an ongoing basis
  • Assist with the application of affiliate licences in territories where licenses are required for the business to operate including the U.S.

Who we’re looking for
 

In this role, we're looking for an excellent, proactive and hardworking legal professional. You most likely have the below background or similar:

  • Qualified Lawyer in England and Wales
  • Around 1-4 years’ PQE, with experience gained either (or both) in our industry, a regulated environment, an online media company or in private practice with similar experience. This sector-specific experience is preferred but not a prerequisite
  • Proven commercial drafting, review and negotiation expertise in respect of a wide range commercial and corporate documents
  • Experience of drafting customer terms and conditions in a regulated environment (preferred but not a prerequisite)
  • Excellent technical legal writing skills and a commercial mindset
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to advise about and lead projects with stakeholders
  • High levels of self-motivation, ability to work autonomously and manage own workload
  • Proactive approach to recognising needs, anticipating issues, and solving problems
  • Ability to balance and prioritise multiple time-sensitive tasks, and manage competing priorities effectively and independently, including driving results and delivering to deadlines and budgets
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented attitude, and superior attention to detail

If you have experience in the gaming industry that’s a big plus too.
