We're looking for an experienced Interaction Designer to join a multidisciplinary agile team delivering user-centred digital services for UK government clients.

You'll turn user needs into clear, accessible, well-tested designs, and work closely with user researchers, content designers, developers and product managers.

• Design end-to-end user journeys and interactions for complex services, based on user research.
  

• Prototype and iterate designs, using the GOV.UK Design System and creating new patterns where existing ones don't fit.
  

• Test designs with users, including people who use assistive technology, and improve them based on the evidence.
  

• Make sure services meet WCAG 2.2 AA and the GDS Service Standard.
  

• Work with content designers and user researchers so that design, content and research work together.
  

• Work closely with developers to get designs built as intended, and take part in design reviews and front-end code reviews.
  

• Explain design decisions to stakeholders and support service assessments.
  

• Document design decisions and patterns, and share good practice with colleagues.
  

Essential:

• BPSS clearance (or the ability to obtain it).
  

• Demonstrable experience designing and delivering interaction design for complex digital services.
  

• Experience working in UK government or public sector digital delivery, with knowledge of the GOV.UK Design System and the GDS Service Standard.
  

• Experience prototyping and usability testing.
  

• Strong understanding of accessibility and inclusive design.
  

• Experience using Figma or similar design tools.
  

• Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams.
  

• A portfolio showing end-to-end work and the evidence behind it.
  

Desirable:

• Experience of service assessments (Alpha, Beta and Live).
  

• Experience designing transactional services, such as forms and applications.
  

• Experience with the GOV.UK Prototype Kit.
  

• Experience mentoring other designers.
  

• Understanding of how services are built, including HTML and CSS.
